We visited this historical museum today and really enjoyed it! Watched a short movie at beginning of tour and ended with a tour of the original house on the grounds. Very nice and knowledgeable museum folks. So many neat things to see and read about. The house (built in 1820?) is really cool. Definitely recommend a stop at this spot!! And it's free, but we did leave a donation.

The Wake Forest Historical Museum is a small museum located in the historic district of Wake Forest. Even though the museum is small it is full of history and well worth a visit. Admission is also free. There is the main museum which has memorabilia and the history of Wake Forest College, sports history, medical history with the Wake Forest Medical School, The Wake Forest Law School, and the Calvin Jones House. Wake Forest College, now Wake Forest University played a huge role in what makes Wake Forest what it is today. So this museum gives those of us new to the area a greater look at why this college was so important and these people who played such big roles. There is an exhibit about "Dr. Tom" and how much respect the students had for him and all his work at the school and in building the stone wall around it. Sports was also a big part of Wake Forest College. Tommy Byrne, was a New York Yankee pitcher and then later became the mayor of Wake Forest in 1983. The Calvin Jones House is now furnished with furniture and upholstery from the time period. and there are two rooms which are decorated like what students had at the time and the Calvin Jones bedroom and the Samuel Wait bedroom. It is well worth a visit to see the floors, the fireplace as it helps to get an idea of what it was like then.If you live in Wake Forest or are just visiting, this museum is worthwhile visit!
