We often stop by Todd Mercantile in the summer while riding our bikes. It is a perfect rest stop. Great conversation and cookies, brownies and coffee give us a punch of energy to continue pedaling down the road. Thanks Helen for your scrumptious baked good and your pretty smile and awesome friendliness. Went to the little village of Todd while viewing the fall leaf colors. Nice walk through the village and taking some picture. We saw a "woolie worm" on the steps of the Mercantile. (The saying goes that you can tell how bad the winter will be by how "woolie" his coat is)The Mercantile had some nice things and a man playing some mountain music. The mountain trolls that someone carved were great!

Pumpkin bread!!!! And sourdough bread. Great coffee and location. Worth a drive. Awesome people and food. The cinnamon rolls are literally the best I've ever had. I brought a book and sat on the front porch and read for a few hours while my husband fished the New River. It was heaven to me. They have a real wood burning stove that keeps the store toasty. You'll love this place.

After reading the reviews I was a little disappointed that the bakery was so sparse when we visited the store. The mercantile is fun to walk through if you like browsing at local crafts. The upstairs has 3 tables to sit and play checkers at plus there are interesting pictures and posters of the area. They carry local jams, jellies and bbq sauce, some tee shirts, jewelry and unique bird houses that we saw again in Boone but marked at higher prices. It was worth the stop. The General Store is across the road and there is also a place to rent tubes for rafting, bikes & kayaks next door.

My friend and I stopped in to the mercantile as we left Todd. The owner was very friendly. I bought one of the fresh baked blueberry scones, it was delicious. I enjoyed my stop there and would go back. Very quaint little store.

My husband and I were recently in Todd and visited Todd Mercantile. There are some reasonably priced t-shirts and souvenirs and a bake shop. It may be that we visited on the wrong day but there was not much to choose from in the bakery. We did purchase a couple of cookies, good but nothing special. There is one table to sit at but that was occupied. Doubt if this is somewhere we will revisit.

Stopped by and were introduced to owner, Helen. She was making waffles whose smell permeated the store. Aside from baked goods, the store had many handmade items from local craftspeople from aprons, jams and brooms. We could not leave this wooden floor beauty without sampling Helen's homemade hot cinnamon rolls. Unbelievably good! We will come back next time for " cinnamon bun Saturday". A must see when in the area.

Whether you are driving through Ashe County, NC or riding your bike down RR Grade Road, don't miss Todd Mercantile Store. Todd, NC is one of those quiet, lovely, beautiful spots that most people miss. Everyone at the store is so friendly, there are fresh baked pastries, sandwiches, and coffee, and local handicraft items. It's a community gathering spot... whether an art exhibit or Contra Dancing. If none of this interests you, just sit on the front porch and gather in the quiet and beauty of the valley.

This place is right up the road from the General Store. You can by crafts, odds and ends, and best of all home made pastries and pies. We bought a whole apple pie that was wonderful warmed with vanilla ice cream. Right up the road from the mercantile is a place to rent kayaks if you want to chill out on the river.
