Sliding Rock is a MUST when in the area! Water is breathtakingly cold but the adventure is worth it!

What a blast. Sliding rock is a must do for the young or old. Nature made the perfect side and plunge pool for the world to enjoy. The water is cold and the pool is deep, but the thrill outweighs the shock of the cold water. The is plenty of parking and many viewing points for your picture to be taken by those who chicken out.

This was a very simple yet very exciting attraction! Is basically a very small hike to a slick rock water fall you sit on and let the fall push you down top a small drop into a lake. It was a very fun experience.

Sliding Rocks is beautiful in the winter! My daughter is asking us to return in the summer so we can slide. Met a local family and they said it's a huge deal when it gets warm enough. Looks like good fun!

Neat place to have some fun, just go in the WARMER months! Go early before the crowds get there. Even in warmer months, the water is still 50-60 degrees!

We went to sliding rock in April and the water was still very chilly. We had a great time though. There are a lot of people that go, and quite a long line will form, but it's worth the wait!

I've been here before but never had the courage to go down the falls. I didn't want my daughter to have the same experience so I told her I'd give her $10 per slide for a 10 max. It was so cold she could only do 3. She said the water just took her breath away. She loved it! She's been talking about it nonstop. She wants to go back. I've vowed to go down next time too!! (In the summer!!!). :). I had the best time watching her. Great place to go with your family!!! In the warmer months there is a lifeguard. At entrance to parking they charged $2 per person (a bargain). I did get stung in the parking lot by a bee (my first time). The Ranger was super nice and came to my rescue with some Sting-ease. This made some great memories!!!

What fun this must be on a warm, sunny day! We were traveling through western NC to visit some of the many waterfalls in the area. This one was on our list. We got there in the late afternoon - after the ranger had left. There is a fee attached to view this site. It is a short, easy walk to the falls. We noted an area for lifeguards. We were not prepared to slide that late in the day in mid-October; however, there were some folks suiting up to do just that. Note: after the ranger station closes, so do the bathrooms so come prepared if you plan to slide the rocks.

We had to do this with the kids when we were visiting Asheville! The water was freezing but the kids had a blast. We went on a Monday afternoon and there was no one else there! Except for spectators who remained bundled up watching our four crazy teens go down it. Kids said it was very smooth and not hurtful at all. Be sure to bring towels! You'll want them when you get out for sure!

First off, the water is FREEZING!! You have to wade through knee deep water (with rocks to slip on!) just to get to the sliding side. My 6 year old was determined to do it, and only her insistence got me to the other side. Once up there, there was a young man who appeared to be something of a life guard. I went first so that I would be at the bottom to help my little one if she needed it....I kid you not, amazingly fun but oh.my.goodness. You hit that water and it feels like you jumped in ice water. I had to stay in a few extra seconds to give my little one a push to the side when she came off the slide, she jumped out, and it was "Let's go AGAIN, Mom!". So we did, tandem this time, and I guess I was numb, because it didn't feel as cold this time! I wasn't really happy with the "life guard" at top when someone came hurtling past us on the way, apparently they don't bother to try to time it, relying on the each person to do the reasonable thing. We went one more time after that, separately again, I kid you not....most fun I've had in years, the ice water non-withstanding (it was a cloudy day and barely 80 degrees, probably feels good on a warmer day!). All in all - this is a must-do at least once! It's very near the Cradle of Forestry, which is another fun thing to do in the area, and there are lots of creekside picnic areas in the vicinity as well.

It was one of the best moments in my life! I slid only 3 times, but it was awesome!! The water was cold, so you wont stay in the water for long, but its worth the splash.

Kids had a blast. We've been going here for years and kids have fun every time. Water is tooooo cold for me so I just put my feet in.

We have been going to sliding rock since the 80's and it is still a lot of fun to go. Be forewarned the water is COLD most of the time! Also, watch for the bump there is one area that has a bump that will rattle your spine if you hit it wrong. Even with possible downsides, it is still one of the best natural water slides in the world. The drive to get there is amazing and the fishing is great all along the river so make a weekend of it and really enjoy sometime outside! This is not really handicapped accessible, and it is about a mile walk from the parking to the slide. There is an area to stand on to get some great photos of the people going down the slide.

I went to sliding rock for my birthday, and got much more than I was expecting. The route to Pisgah from Gastonia is very scenic. The water was a bit cold, but not unbearable. Everyone was nice and I especially appreciated that there were life guards on duty. I would have stayed longer but time did not permit. Definitely a day trip so no other plans should be made other than visiting the neighboring falls.

During the milder weather, this is an excellent spot for anyone to play on a hot day. The rock is slick, and you have to go up to the top via the line, so you need to be physically fit. The water is chilly but feels great. The mountains around this area allow one to see the true hidden beauty of Pisgah National Forest. There are bathroom facilities to change on the property.
