I was expecting to see the wheel turning based on an article I read from Our State magazine. I'd call ahead if you want to go when things are running. Other than that, its a beautiful spot with a shop full of baking mixes and grains. We bought the sweet potato pancake mix and steel cut oats.

It is a genuine old mill that mills in front of your eyes corn or other….The entire mechanism is exposed and visible and very instructive for children as for adults as well. Very exciting to see how the water puts in motion those large stone wheels and how the dry seeds turn into flour. How the size of the output can be adjusted.Apart from the mill, in the back, they do have a country store focused on their products, where you can get flour and grits and so much more. It’s the perfect place to stop and spend a half an hour and try to explain to your kids what a mill really is

My wife and I stopped by while driving back to SC from VA to see this historic place. The mill was not running when we visited. I'm glad to see that it is still a working mill. The shop is very nice with lots of different flours, and souveniers to purchase. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and will gladly answer your questions.

A neat mill with an interesting history. British troops under General Cornwallis passed the mill in February, 1781, en route to engage the American army under General Greene at Guilford Courthouse. Cornwallis seized the mill to provide grain for his men. It's still a functioning waterwheel mill, though electricity is available, I understand. There are packets of various grains and other items for sale. People here are friendly and helpful.

If you love Grits, you need to go, bring the kids and see how they make these wonderful grits, then buy a nice big bag and make them at home. It's historical, educational and above all, the Grits have the most wonderful texture. They are absolutely delicious and it's a "feel good" moment to buy them from where they are actually made. Yes, you can purchase these in various stores around the Triad, but it really is a fun trip to go at least once. I discovered it when I first moved here 25 years ago and I keep going. Enjoy!

Thanks to the newest owners who take as much pride in their products as the last owners. Take a small time out of you busy day to show the kids somw amazing ways we lived back then. It something you have to shoe them in order for the true meaning to set in!

This working mill is so cool to see and it will only take a few minutes. Great photo ops outside and the store inside has great products that I like to give to out-of-state friends and family, such as grits, flour and pancake mixes. During the week, you may be fortunate enough to visit when the mill is running.

Nestled in Oak Ridge, NC is one of the oldest operating mills in America. The rural charm of the area and the wonderful folks that operate the mill make you want to sit on the porch and stay awhile. Inside, the inner workings of the mill are on display and the small store sells some of the tastiest blends of mixes in the world. The grounds are picturesque and the out bulidings have stories all their own. Ask anyone there and they can fill you in on the history of the mill. From the signifigance during the Revolutionary War to it's current day family-owned operations, it's a wonderful stopping point in small town America.

This mill is awesome. You can watch corn be made into meal. The mill has been there running since at least the early 1800's. They sell all types of meal so you make all types of bread, pancakes and much more. Each bag of meal they sell has the receipe in it so you can make it at home so you can make it like they did years ago. They sell jellies, jams, honey as well as other items made in North Carolina. You can see the giant water wheel turning. Again this mill is awesome.

Stop was in May 2013. Had passed it many times to the military academy there. Stopped in and it was a nice little treat to see. Did pickup a few little things and the employees were very sweet. If you get the chance and you are in the area, stop and take a look.
