There are several well-marked trails in this Catawba County park. The Red Trail circumvents the park area with elevations ranging from about 1000 ft to about 1350 feet. The Blue trail leads to a scenic overlook that apparently has a good view, but it was overcast the day we visited so we didn't hike to the overlook. There are some grades but they are not too steep. The trail is easy to find and well maintained. There are several rocks and roots, so you have to watch your step. We hiked at a steady pace and it took just over an hour. There were several hikers of all ages so it is a good family hike location. Bring the dog too! Several folks had pets and they seemed to have fun, but they have to be on a leash. There are locations throughout the trails for picnics and plenty of garbage cans as well. The park is only open Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon. It is about 7 miles off of Interstate 40 west of Hickory, NC and is a nice side-trip when traveling in the area.
