It's amazing how big it is...and the setting is beautiful...the mix of nature...with man...very appropriate place to return to the earth I think. In the background you can catch glimpses of the Ravenal...over a swamp...the pond in the center of the cemetery attracts interesting birds to watch and the headstones are so unique...it is a lot like a sculpture garden...also, visit the couple of surrounding cemeteries.

A lovely, quiet cemetery on the Cooper River. Great for bird watchers & history buffs. Old live oak trees shade grave markers from the late 1700s.

One of the better maintained & beautiful cemeteries we have visited while in Charleston. The office is very helpful with maps & info pertaining to particular grave sites to visit, and were also very informative to learn about. I do suggest checking this place out for its history & beauty.

The Magnolia Cemetery is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. The peace and serenity of the atmosphere and the antiquated feel is just overwhelming. Even if cemeteries creep you out, the plants and scenery around the gorgeous headstones and mausoleums are appealing. I've been here twice and each time I love it more and more.

Magnolia is one of the largest and oldest cemeteries I've ever visited and I've visited hundreds of cemeteries. It's literally big enough to get lost in. Don't miss it if you're a taphophile!

Charleston, SC is a gem - great place for American History buffs. So clean and safe for visitors. I love the heritage of this City.

On the banks of the Cooper River lies a well hidden gem. One would never guess that just a stone's throw away from the unsightly path of industry lies such a beautiful park like cemetery. I stepped back in time driving throught the magnificent gates. There are two beautiful lakes with many wetland birds, immaculately kept landscape, and vistas of the Cooper River and Ravenel Bridge. I went in the office and was greeted with kindness and given a map that was full of information about the historical grave sites. The monuments were like none I have ever seen. I highly recommend putting this site at the top of your visit. I know I'm going back.

Its like walking throughout the pages of a history book. See the family burial plots and read the tombstone to catch a glimpse of their lives. Wonderful tribute to the Confederate dead. Hallowed ground to all the heroes that gave all the had to their cause.

This is a short drive from anywhere in Charleston. If you have a GPS it should be no problem. There are a few cemeteries back on this road but this one is extraordinary. It might seem peculiar to want to visit such a place but I think the monuments and the iron works are just as good as some museums offer. We just bought a 3d camera and I wanted to practice with it and knew this would provide me with exceptional picture taking opportunities. I was right, the pictures are stunning. The grounds are well maintain which is remarkable considering the size of the cemetery. It is also very beautiful with spanish moss hanging from the trees. Definitely wear walking shoes. You can drive through, which we did but there is also parking. It is a very nice way to spend the afternoon under the trees and to walk back in a time where honoring the dead is more than a plaque in the ground but is an art form. I think it is a must see experience.

Slightly further north of downtown than you think you can go, the well kept cemetary is true low country. The marsh is barely at bay. The office house is a quaint old structure worth visiting. The staff directly me very clearly to my great-granparents graves.
