blue lake trail

We went there in first week of November .we saw some snow in parking area and were skeptical whether to proceed or not since we were not used to hike in snow however we asked some people who were returning back and they said its really very beautiful up there ,its a sight one should not miss so we decided to go ahead. Hike was pretty easy .we reached top in one and half hour .There was snow on entire trail and it increased as we ascended. It is better to have stick ,snow shoes and proper protective clothing if you are going in late October or early November. The view above was spectacular. There were snow clad mountain peaks all around with half frozen lake in between. We took another hour to return back to parking area.Over all it was fairly easy 2.2 mile one way hike with spectacular views at top.

First, let me start by saying that I am somewhat used to hiking several miles through forests just to see a lake or river or what-have-you. But this hike was very pretty from the very start. Right at the trailhead, being in late September, colors were beginning to show on the ground (like the tundra in Alaska). That gave me hope as the prior day I had been somewhat dismayed walking through a lot of dark green forest with not much else. Although the day was still rainy off and on, it was a beautiful hike---the forest itself was very pretty, with various types of shrubbery bordering the trail,rocks of various sizes and shapes and occasional views of the mountains along the way. At a few spots along the way, you come round a corner and boom---there is a rainbow of colors! And all this was even before getting to the lake :)The lake itself was beautiful---the color was amazing. And surrounded by huge mountains and meadows. I understood there were mountain goats-I didn't see any myself was was able to see pictures from hikers coming back as I was going up. There is one log going across the stream if you want to get to where you can hike further--although the log was sawed off flat on top, it was very slanted, and , raining at the time, slippery. Being alone, I didn't risk it but was able to negotiate stepping across some rocks instead (having a hiking stick is almost essential for that). What a great way to spend the day! Even the rain didn't dampen my spirits--although I wish I had thought to take along some plastic or a foam mat to sit on to have lunch. It was a very well-maintained trail and just enough altitude gain to give one some exercise but not so much that you are sore later. So, I shall return, plus I didn't get a chance for a good day to hike the Heather/Maple Loop, which is the reason I went there in the first place. So, North Cascades, I shall return!! :) The entire area is awe-inspiring.

This hike was absolutely stunning. Probably my favorite hike to date. The Butte Dock half is somewhat difficult, but if you only do the Blue Lake trail it's fairly easy.

Did the hike mid-afternoon in August. Mid 60s with some moderate rain on the hike back. Hiking up, it feels like you're going the wrong way and its tempting to turn back. But its definitely worth it. The trail is beautiful with great views of the snow capped mountains. The only thing I regret is not bringing anything to protect against bears. An airhorn, pepper spray, or even a gun is a must. You could hike the four miles without running into to anyone, so protect yourself. Once I got to the lake, I brought a change of clothes so I decided to jump in. Coldest water I've ever been in, but it was worth it. The water was crisp and blue, I definitely recommend taking the plunge if you're up to it. The trail is well kept and maintained. Short hike, 4 miles round trip, but strenuous. It should be fine for families with young kids (my six year old brother did the hike no problem). Five dollars cash is required for a pass.

Beautiful walk with a little scary snow hike. Walking stick and good shoes needed. Blue lake was white with ice. 80 degrees great views

Today hiking with a fresh fall of snow on the ground, at times we wondered if we were heading in the right direction! Worth the hike, stunning views along the wat and the lake was very stunning, not sure if it was blue though!

A tremendous reward for the moderate 2.2 mile hike up to the lake. Although the trails are a little sketchy going around the lake, I recommend going to the other side. Blue Lake reminded us of our trip to the Canadian Rockies last summer. Just a beautiful spot in the North Cascades.

Steady uphill walk for 2.2 miles to alpine lake. Starts out paralleling the road, hwy 20, so traffic noise. But after the switchback, peaceful. Nice flowers in the meadow after the deep, dark woods. Lots of Karner blue butterflies. The uphill feels l-o-n-g but once you get to Blue Lake, the payoff is spectacular. The lake is turquoise blue with spires towering above. Stunning reflections of glacier-like features in the water. We enjoyed cheese and crackers while soaking in the view. Magnificent. An A+ hike cause its vigorous but with an outstanding payoff. My feet were sore on the way down so I walked part of it in my stocking feet. I saw a 10 year old boy doing this and asked his name. Then I said, " if its good enough for Julian, it's good enough for me." My feet thanked me. July 29, 2013.

Moderate short hike to a wonderful alpine lake. Bring a swim suit - a brief dip in the snow filled lake is a great dare.

This is a pleasant hike. We went with our ten year old daughter, teenage sons and a close friend. The view of the lake was exquisite. It is a gorgeous shade of blue with majestic mountains and trees. Do leave yourself plenty of time to hike in and out. It took us a little longer than expected. We were caught in a light rain and made it back to the car just as it was getting dark. There is a restroom at the beginning of the trail. Bring a camera and take tons of pictures! This park is relatively new and is beautiful. Take time to stop and take pictures. Bring water and snacks. Great visitor's center.

We did this hike after already completing about 12 miles...which was a lot coming from the flatlands of Miami! We thought 2.2 isn't bad. Well about 1/2 way into it we couldn't believe how long 2.2 seemed! It was a wonderful hike though. Pretty walk through the forest...then into a meadow, through a rocky area and finally to the lake! Spectacular. It was an easy walk...just long. no steep inclines. On our way down from the lake we saw Mountain Goats. They were really cool...didn't seem interested in us...just walking along and eating. This hike was well worth it.
