This hike begins with a 3 1/2 mile, 1500 elevation gain hike through a very pleasant forest, then opens up to a stellar view of Mount Baker, and, I believe, Shuksan. The descriptions of this hike are confusing because, once you reach the open meadow, you can travel as far as you'd like, up and down the ridges--it is fantastic! We were blessed with a perfect day in mid August, and could see forever!! Don't be put off by some of the distances that describes this trail--you can get to the open ridge in 3 1/2 miles!! One of the best we've hiked in Washington! (Our other favorite is the Skyline Drive in Mount Rainier.

Excellent view of both Baker & Shuksan!A moderate trail to hike but it's well worth the pain. We definitely come back.

Even though the weather wasn't ideal this is a beautiful hike. We started early so it wasn't busy but when we descended we ran into lots of people of all ages...nice to see adults and kids enjoying. Views of the peaks were pretty limited but would be spectacular on a clear day...headed into the basin vs. up the ridge given the weather and weren't disappointed - lovely flowers and marmots as well.

A short, around 1h steep hike to reach a ridge with fantastic views on Mount Baker. The gravel road is in good condition and the parking lot is reachable with regular car.
