Much to see. Interesting history. The forts on the hill are great and what a view from there. Nice grounds and setting. Very good campground right on the river.

Nice drive and beautiful view of the surrounding river and valley. See Custer's home that has been rebuilt with tours and camp by the river.

We stayed overnight in Bismarck, arriving mid afternoon, and decided to take a quick trip ti the Park. It was well worth it despite the wet, cold windy weather. The highlight was a tour of the Custer house, the home he had built to replace the one which had burned down. It is a magnificent home, much more elegant than one would think you would find out in the middle of "nowhere". It just so happened that we caught the last tour of the year, September 30th. The guide, in period apparel, was very knowledgeable. The home is not open to the public except for tours so plan your visit accordingly. There are rebuilt barracks and other fort buildings around the home. Other areas of the Park include blockhouses built on hills offering lovely views of the Missouri river and surrounding area (the weather limited our views, however), A lovely stone visitor's center built by the CCC, walking trails, and a rebuilt Mandan Indian village with truly impressive log and earth buildings. There is a tour of the village, but we missed that. This Park is a great place to visit for all and we highly recommend it.

Spent an afternoon walking around the park. Have also camped there for a business outing. Both were fun times. The tours were very interesting and informational, there is a lot of cool history out there!

Congratulations to the North Dakota historical society and the state Parks system for bringing to life an important figure and tiyme in our nation. The guide to our visit to the Custer house was extremely factual and complete. Although the original house burned the rebuilt model does more than present a picture of life at the fort it also help develop an understanding of the inhabitants and the times. Don't miss the infantry fort at the top of the hill. The rebuilt "block houses" have been well done. The story connected with the "grave yard' is not to be missed and once again helps define this time in our history. I recommend reading the book "Boots and Saddles" before your visit it will provide an excellent context.

We visited here because of the Custer connection and really enjoyed the visit. The site was well kept and the recreation of the barracks was interesting. They have quite a good selection of books on a variety of historical subjects.

We visited with my daughter and grandchildren. It was so nice to see the Custer house and the slant village. All guides were very informative. We went back in time to 1885 when we visited the Custer house. Very nice and the guide made no mistakes when asked by a visitor a question about General Custer in the past tense. He kept everything in the present time which inside the house was 1885. Fabulous day overall.

If you like history and want to bring it to life, then Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is for you! Completes the story of Custer's Last Stand - as he started that fatefully journey from Fort Lincoln. The guides for Custer's house were excellent. They are dressed as infantry men and the time is 1875. The barracks are done up nicely to give you the idea of how it was like for them. The gift shop and bookstore especially is very good. Bookstore has table and chairs so that you can read and examine all the books for sale. Good displays of artifacts found on the site. Then, don't forget to go to the Infantry Post at sunset for spectacular views of the area. The On-A-Slant Indian Village is very informative (guided tours available) and the visitor center is great. Oh, and there is camping too. We spend a whole afternoon 4 - 5 hours. It could have been all day. Just a splendid place!

We chose this place; especially to sleep in the tipi and have the experience. We were somewhat surprised by the wood floor and cots; but also felt that most would want that (over the ground floor). We were greeted by the park ranger and were happy with the facilities (long drop close by). Modern facilities (flush toilet and showers) were not that far away and were extremely clean. Would offer that they should have more area for garbage (as we found people were leaving household garbage in the washroom facilities). The river is very nice; not sure if people swim in it though; no signage was posted. We ended the visit at the Indian Village and were more than surprised by how awesome that everything was there. Would highly recommmend the Indian Village. Save the tipi; and rent the rustic cabin instead (only 15$ more and way more comfortable; especially since not getting the true tipi experience).

We went to see the Custer house which was a reconstruction and not accurate (except for the floor plan.) The military area was basically empty mock ups of buildings. We stayed in the RV park area which was ok.

Excellent location, lots of local history. Quiet and enjoyed the lack of traffic and peacefulness. I liked everything, and there were no things that came to mind I did not like.

My wife and I stayed during our trip out west. We do not think it is worth stopping for. First, when we stopped at the entrance gate, the lady informed us the campground was full. We had no intention of camping there. We always stay at a hotel. Second, the sound for the movie at the visitor center was very poor. Third, there is only a couple of buildings at the old military base. It is not worth the drive.

We enjoyed our time at Fort Abraham Lincoln, in particular the On-a-Slant Village. (Check out its separate listing for specific reviews.) Don't miss climbing the hill to the Infantry Outpost. Although there is no tour guide, it offers spectacular views of the surrounding area and a great place for kids to run around and explore.
