Ok. So it really isn't a train...My friend and I enjoyed riding the trolley over the 4th of July weekend. It was a nice little trip. Thru the woods, along the Heart River, and over three bridges. The trolley goes out to Ft Lincoln where you can get off and explore if you'd like or just stay on for the ride back. It was pretty crowded being a holiday weekend, so next time I would go on a weekday. Also I'd recommend the first trip of the afternoon and get there early... parking can be scarce.

It's kind of neat to ride in an open-air trolley with no gates/sides to Ft. Lincoln and back. The view is not as open as you might expect--there are a lot of trees and high banks from what must be old train tracks blocking the view. A lot of what you see along the way is trees and backyards, including a scarecrow wearing a bikini. The train crosses a couple of neat old bridges. We couldn't hear the introduction where the conductor talked about history and safety prior to taking off due to traffic noise on the street; they could use a megaphone or a PA system. If you want to see all the sites at Ft. Lincoln, I'd suggest driving your car out there rather than taking the trolley unless you want to do a lot of walking. If you just want to see the Custer House, it's not too far of a walk.

You can take the trolley from Mandan out to Fort Lincoln. Once there you can get out a walk around the park or just ride the trolley back. It is around 8 miles round trip and it takes under an hour if you don't get off the trolley at Fort Lincoln. You ride past the river and some farms and houses. We saw several deer along they way. The seats are hard and wooden, but comfy. Open air so if it is cold dress for it. If you want to see Fort Lincoln I would drive out there, it is not really a walk around park if you want to see all the attractions in a timely manner. This is just a neat experience and a fun ride through the woods.

First time on a Trolley ride with the family! Loved every minute. The Trolley was beautiful , the guide was fun, informative and patient with our children. The ride was interesting up until the very end for even our youngest child. My boys loved the 3 bridge's we crossed and also the car that was left several years ago they thought for sure it was from a Scooby Doo episode!! :) Stopping at Fort Lincoln is also a must ! A lot to look at. Also a great place to camp!

We really enjoyed this trolly ride. It was something different for us, not too long, not too short. The Village the trolly stops at doesn't look like much but it's worth a quick look see. An hour and a half well spent.
