Although we could only stay one night at charming Carmel, it was more than worth the visit! The city is different from the usual American cities where big chains of stores and restaurants dominate the area. In Carmel, there is a feeling that each thing you buy, each dish you eat was made thinking of you. Shop owners and assistants are always welcoming and ready to help, and they seem to really notice your presence and want to know more about you and the place you come from. The sunset is of such beauty that your eyes remain with the impression that they will not see anything as stunning ever again. I hope I can go there again to spend a whole week at least and forget about the rest of the world for a while!

Nice stores & art galleries. Carmel Plaza has Sur Le Table, & great chees shop. Also nice to walk & check out dining options.

We stayed in San Francisco, rented a car and drove down PC Hwy 1. Great drive, beautiful coast line. We stopped at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, then Pebble Beach golf course finishing with Camel beach and then village center. Lots of quaint shops, bars and restaurants on the tree lined main street. Our wives enjoyed the boutique shopping while the husbands found a great piano bar and enjoyed some cold beverages. Makes a great day trip out of San Francisco but, it is a long day. We got back fairly late in the evening.

Stores are a little pricey but several restaurants to choose from that were good. Great little coffee shop at the beginning of the street.

Lots of walking to be done here. We didn't see everything in just our couple hours of available time. Lots of people with dogs! Parking can be tough...lots of meters, so come prepared. We looked for a map of the shops in the area, but our hotel only showed restaurants. That was kind of a bummer. It was a beautiful day for being out and there were lots of people on this particular Monday. High prices, yes. High end stores, yes. But also some more affordable places as well as tourist traps. It is also a hilly area, so be ready to exercise while you are walking.

Carmel village is a very charming place to explore on foot . There are many interesting stores to explore and all of the local people are extremely friendly and helpful . It is very easy to miss a charming shopping mall which is well disguised a few shops and then opens into a courtyard with many different , interesting stores awaiting exploration e.g. the Cheese shop with an outstanding selection of global cheeses and an equally amazing selection of global wines. The only caution I would add is that the sidewalks are not even throughout the village so one has to watch one's steps especially after spraining an ankle earlier in our trip!

This small town was absolutely my favourite place on our 2.5 week trip, lots of gorgeous little boutique shops, lovely restaurants, very clean, friendly people. Definitely will visit again

I never tire walking and strolling through the streets of Carmel. Such a large variety of galleries, unique shops and fabulous restaurants. And let's not forgot the beautiful beach. It is just fun to walk along the sidewalk meeting so many people from all walks of life. Lots of doggies too.Best to go mid-week to avoid the crowds. Plenty of parking but beware a 2 hour limit on the side streets and you have to pay to park on Ocean Blcd (the main road). Don't get a parking ticket, I hear they are expensive.

Quaint, rustic--a little crowded, but to be expected with all the great shops & restaurants. Bring quarters for parking!

Carmel is the most charming beach town that I have seen so far in California. The houses near the ocean are absolutely gorgeous. I could move there right away if it wasn't for their prices . Make sure you visit Carmet/ a must see place!! Beautiful shops and nice restaurants!!

If you like shopping, wine, or art, this town is made for you. Lots of boutiques, tasting rooms, and galleries. Perhaps a bit "precious" but fun to browse.

This is a lovely place and usually peaceful. We went when a car show was on and the place was crowded - had a great time nevertheless !
