The people that work there were very friendly and informative. The store was awesome for t-shirts and other collectables. WiFi was a bonus.

We found the employees at the restaurant and the store to be extremely surly and uncharacteristic of a national park. We got to the restaurant just before closing time, after a very long drive, and they were unhappy to see any more people that day. They did reluctantly make us cold sandwiches, but just after we got our sandwiches, another couple, obviously from europe, arrived, and they were totally given the cold shoulder. They had room reservations, and were told that they could get NOTHING to eat.. I felt so bad for them, they were devastated after that very long and challenging drive into the canyon, that they were simply turned away. They couldn't even by a candy bar!!!! What a poor reflection on American hospitality! The next day we stopped into the store, and the woman there was the grumpiest person I've seen at a cash register in many months. The area was gorgeous, but at "the village" they really need to hire staff who have compassion and patience for the hearty souls who travel down into that canyon!the campgrounds nearby were beautiful and we had no problems there

Grants grove is so beautiful! It was my first experience with "the big trees." The General Grant tree was amazing! It made me feel so small. It put life's stupid little issues into perspective. Totally felt like a "puny human!"

This is a place worth driving to. You will decent to the lowest area of Sequoia and will get really beautiful views. Near the end you will pass Grizzly Falls which can be very active in the spring.

This is not on the Main Generals Highway. It is at the end of a 30 mile stretch of winding mountain roads. But it is worth it. You will want to have reservations before you get here. The rooms are ok and the AC doesn't work great, but it is cool at night even in Summer time. Nice and quiet and lots of trailheads nearby even for just day hikes. You will want to bring food, the only food available closes around 8. They provide free water refills, you cannot drink the tap water. The store and restaurant do not rip you off like in other parks.

If you head towards the "road's end" in kings canyon, 7 miles before the end you reach cedar grove 'village'. It's a single building with perhaps 20 rooms on the second floor with a corridor down the middle plus a store and eatery on the first floor. The store cashiers are the hotel clerks and work the eatery too. On the plus side it sits near a clear cold scenic river and the store is well stockade and the food at the eatery is surprisingly good. On the downside, if you are looking for comfort and pampering this is not the place. However its a good break after an hour of curves and hairpins on the winding kings canyon road.

Visitor's center with helpful rangers and supply store. And who doesn't appreciate over 4 bucks for a bag of ice! Pizza place open late.

All the basics embedded deep in the canyon. Snack bar/restaurant with dining both inside and out. The only “major” shortcomings were the paper-thin walls (combined with noisy neighbors) and that the food service and office didn’t open until 8:00 a.m. (or after, as it turned out). For a facility that serves people most likely to be up with the sun, it seemed strange to not have any coffee or other services until after most people were on the trails. But you are deep in one of the prettiest places in the country. What more could you ask for?

Every trip since a child. I love this place. You may not. Too bad for you. Fish, and walk up Bubb's Creek. Say hello to real hikers. Coldest place in the Sierra's in the Fall. Enjoy.

Cedar Grove Village is more about the ‘journey’ to Roads End (closes mid November until mid April). Allow 3 hours round trip on Hwy 180 (Kings Canyon Scenic Byway) from Grant Grove Village. Plus more time out of the car to take advantage of several stunning viewpoints, falls, caves, hikes, meals and a drive that needs to be relished for its spectacular beauty! We spent double the recommended time on this roundtrip drive (unless you stay at the village) and loved every minute of it!What you see when you get to the village is a car park, rustic lodge, camping areas, basic restaurant, small general/gift store, laundromat, shower facilities, restrooms, Visitors Centre, Wilderness Permit Station and then miles upon miles of solitude – hence the permit station. We found this region of the park less crowded than Grant Grove or Sequoia NP and It not hard to find places where there is just you and nature. One mile east of Cedar Grove is a turnoff to Canyon View, where we saw the U-shape of Kings Canyon carved out by a glacier. It’s inconceivable to think plans to flood Kings Canyon by damming the Kings River would have buried Cedar Grove beneath a deep lake! Many visitors may miss this drive and it really is a ‘must do’ if coming to Kings Canyon or Grant Grove Village. It will take you a whole day to really take in the many exceptional canyon features on the way to/from Cedar Grove.Enjoy your journey!
