I took my kids to this museum and all three found something interesting to see and learn about history. i myself was blown away with old Sears catalog in a really good shape for a 100+ year old volume that you can actually touch and read. Will go again!

Nestled in the mountains is this quaint little gold town from years gone by. Known for its apple pie and cider, there is plenty to see and learn. If you are visiting San Diego, try to make it up there. We never know if the next wildfire may take part or all from the map. We hope not.

omg all these years I've gone to Julian always always over looked the Julian Pioneer Museum. Really what made me go in this time, don't even know. So SO thankful I DID!Every single piece of history in there is from the actual founders and families. It's the real Mc Coy. Really as one reviewer mentioned....its all their original home wares, tools, clothing, pictures, stories, just every single thing. It's all the real stuff that was brought and used by the founders of Julian. From my understand there are still founders descendants contributing real items to date. Unlike most you go in they have piece that may reflect the time period, and show items that may have been used during that era. That is not the case here...every single piece is from the entire town during the creation of Julian. Interesting, an African American owned the first Hotel in Julian in the 1800's. Feel it truly was such a loving, thriving Community, one that embraced all and supported all. All this for three bucks a person. Suggest this.......first time or like us 30th time.......the very next visit you do after reading this....go right in the Julian Pioneer Museum. Don't go get an apple pie first, or shop in the darling artisan shops, or eat or lodge..................no ..........make this your first thing.Trust me, this will make every single thing you do during your visit to Julian feel like you are one of the Locals yourself, and make everything you do better. love Julian.....going into to this Museum will make you love it more.

An amazing display of laces and lace making, clothing decoration and fashion, even hair and toiletry accessories...hard to imagine that women in this remote gold town would have such fancy things. Also a good amount of kitchen/home wares, and a room devoted to gold mining, farming, and general area history, with cute stories about local happenings. It is small, but jam packed and for a very small fee ($3)

Nice little museum with lots of interesting artifacts from Julian's past. For $3.00 you get a decent bang for your buck.

The current founders of this museum in particular were not just interesting, but so informative and helpful. We even stopped in there for directions one of the days we were in town, and they happily helped.

This museum features a collection of antique items and photographs from the area in one large room. We always enjoy looking at these types of local museums and if you do too, then it is well worth your time. I marked it average simply because I've seen this type of museum in dozens of old towns and this one wasn't really much different.

This is a big room full of interesting artefacts from the pioneer days and after. Interesting in themselves, but there is not overmuch context given for the displays, so unless you love lace collections or old photographs it won't take too much time to visit. The staff volunteers are very friendly!

Interesting assortment of artifacts and of "junk". Loved the beautiful antique piano. As well as the collection of shoes. There's a $3 donation. As another reviewer said, they need to identify and organize everything. Some had been but the handwritten notes have deteriorated and hard to read. Many had no identification and so you don't know what you're looking at. Many things are just stacked around and under and on top of other things. Some look like they have no significance. But if identified, they might have. It appears school age children made a collection from friends and neighbors and just put them wherever there was an empty spot and nobody has kept them organized..We enjoyed it anyway. It could be a really nice museum if organized and identified by someone who knows what they are doing - somewhat like Temecula museum - very nice little museum.

I haven't been here in years, but noted that the exhibits are pretty much the same, although they really need a lot of work. Signage is faded and dated, and much is not labeled so you really don't know what it is you are seeing. All could use more organization to help tourists understand the history of this Gold Rush era town, and its founders.

Great collection of frontier or pioneer artifacts from the local area. Includes mail delivery buggy, old vintage kitchen items, ranch artifacts etc. Great place to take the family and absorb the past.

If you want to know the history of Julian and see some real artifacts, don't miss the Museum. Adjacent to the museum are a couple of replica buildings and a nicely restored gas powered stage. There is a nice little park on the property for your sack lunch or just sitting.

Lots of funky history here, mostly local stuff but also an eclectic range of other items. Great way to spend time in town, but it is frequently not open.

Most people come to Julian to shop, eat, and buy great pies. Just a block off the main street are several small historic museums. This museum, while not large, is filled with artifacts of Julian's past, including its mining past. The museum is proud of its lace collection. Taxidermied animals look down on visitors. A carriage is in the center. The admission is modest, photography is not allowed.

The bygone era of this historic gold-mining town comes alive in the Julian Pioneer Museum. Artifacts and memorabilia from early families vie for space in a former blacksmith shop. Hundreds of photographs of pioneers and places line the walls. An exquisit collection of handmade lace is the envy of much larger museums. Clothing from the olden days are displayed on mannequins. Everywhere you look, there is something of interest. Knowledgeable docents are on hand to answer questions. A small park is adjacent to the museium, a perfect place to sit and relax or enjoy a picnic lunch.
