Such a beautiful area, and relaxing drive when trying to escape the stresses of work/life/cities etc. We loved the clear mountain air, and interesting features to explore. You can even camp near the lake in cabins, and the views on the hills are gorgeous! We will be back.

Gorgeous rolling hills out near Lake Cuyumaca, with views toward the mountains, and wildlife like deer, woodpeckers, and a ranging bobcat were exciting to see.

This is a nice area for a roadside stop and hike up the hills along the creek and toward the spring. It is very scenic and we hike it during the drought. It was a fun place and not too busy, giving the serenity of nature. The trail starts along I-79, so there is some traffic noise until you climb into the next valley, about a half-mile or so into the hike, then it is quite peaceful.

I went there on a cloudy day in December 2013. It was still warm. I did a hike to the top of Cuyamaca Peak (I think it was this one, not really sure) for like 3 hours since I often stopped and took pictures of that beautiful landscape and the great nature. When you leave the trail and continue going upwards the road there's a small place right-handed with a single wooden bank. Stop there! You'll have an amazing view over some mountains nearby and small villages down there. On the top of the mountain this view is even better and you can climb on some of the rocks on there. You can spend a whole day over there and won't regret any second.

There are a lot of different hiking trails to choose from for everyone from kids to hardcore trekkers. Check out the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park HQ for maps and info. Make sure you know what poison oak looks like so you can avoid contact with it.

This is a beautiful place to visit in Southern California. It is a real change from the beach and surf scene. Be prepared for winding roads. It is after all -- Mountains!

We finally made it to Stonewall Peak Trail in Cuyamaca State Park on the Tuesday after Memorial Day after the crowds dissipated and we LOVED the natural beauty surrounding us. We saw the obvious fire damage that occurred in 2003 throughout the park but loved seeing the hope of new growth everywhere! We made it to the top of Stonewall on a clear day and could see the surrounding 360 degree views of Borrego Springs, Mt Laguna, Mexico, Mt Jacinto in the distance. Flowers were in bloom along the groomed switchback trail and we posted pictures on Facebook. On the weekends, I would imagine there are many more people with children so if you want to experience the peace and tranquility of the mountain, visit this spot during the week. It's well worth the visit!

Over ten years ago, this beautiful area was ravished by wildfires. It is starting to come back now though with lots of new growth. The hike up Stonewall Peak is breath taking. Still a nice repose from the busy San Diego County lifestyle.

We have visited Cuyamaca hundereds of times, over many, many years. A true retreat, a great getaway, we always feel at home when visiting. We have hiked every trail, several many times. Always a memorable time for us. Although the devastating fire's effects remain, Cuyamaca's beauty remains. Be sure to hit the trails, and leave only footprints

There are a lot of hiking trails as well as places to camp. They did have a fire some years back so there is a lot of dead burnt trees. Vegitaion has grown back nicely, but they need to take time to take out all the dead and burnt trees. We have been camping up there since i was a little kid. Wonderful place to make family memories. Also if you camp at Green Valley falls they have showers and flushable toilets. A shower cost you 50 cents for great hot water!

The Cuyamaca Peaks and surrounding State Park provide many miles of trails and a couple of very well kept campgrounds. The park is aprt of the State Park system and is quite popular, so, make reservations early if you plan to camp. Next to the park is a small lake that provides boats and equipment for fishing, and, is regularly stocked with good sized trout.

If you live in San Diego and surrounding area Cuyamaca Mountains provides you with great areas to go camping and hiking. Cuyamaca Lake is close by for fishing or just boating but be prepared it is pricey. Then there is the beautiful quaint town of Julian where you must stop for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate accompanied by a slice of their famous pie at the Julian Pie Factory. Great areas for an over weekend vacation or that Sunday getaway.

Het is er heerlijk stappen. Goede stapschoenen aan te raden, maar verder is het gewoon genieten. Hier en daar uitkijken of je vergunning nodig hebt.
