As a huge Disney enthusiast, I found this museum to be absolutely WONDERFUL. It was so informative and well laid out. There were several interactive stations, (my sister and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to synch up the sounds for a Mickey short), and we were kept interested the entire way through. Being the type of person who wants to read every piece of information, we took over 2 hours in the museum, but it could be done more quickly. Families should be aware that young children may not appreciate this museum as it is not a "Disneyland-centered" attraction, but rather focused on the life of Walt Disney himself. The staff working the ticket desk was helpful and friendly. They even managed to give my mom an educator discount, despite the fact that she didn't have her school ID with her. All of the staff within the museum were able to answer our questions, or else they were able to look it up quickly and get back to us with the answer.

They have a train expo! Walt Disney was obsessed with trains. ...much like someone else I know. Thus museum, if you like trains or not is a great time. Learn many things about the Disney family in a beautiful area.

... I never knew I'd be that interested in Disney, but the museum does a great job of talking through a life's work in building up the museum and the origins of Disney. Well worth a visit if you're in San Fran. Only one complaint, the prices are definitely Disney style prices and I'm not quite sure the main exhibition is quite worth the price charged. But still an enjoyable way to while away a few hours

Whether you are a Disney fan or not it is hard not to admit that this is one of the best done museums anywhere! The linear storytelling and variety of exhibits and displays makes this San Francisco Museum a must see!House in an old Presidio barrack, the Walt Disney family museum is an engaging, visually delightful, media rich experience that every member of the family will enjoy. The museum tells the story of Walt Disney on the personal, creative and business level. It delves into family, films, television, theme parks and business. Each room has its own personality and visual sensibility. You will be surprised how much time you will spend here whether you are a Walt Disney fan aficionado or naysayer. The only negative about museum is that it's location makes it difficult to get to and sometimes difficult to get a ride from. Plan ahead and be prepared to use uber or walk far distances.

For anyone who is a Disney Fan this is a must see attraction. Even if you are not a Disney Fan, the museum is well worth a visit. The museum is housed in a historic restored beautiful park area of the Old Presidio overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay.The free lobby area has displays of all of the awards Walt Disney obtained over his lifetime. You can see actual Grammy, Emmy and numerous Oscars! A nice cafe and gift shop is also within the free lobby onsite as well. The exhibit hall is well put together and well thought out. It is set up sort of like a documentary that chronicles the life of Walt Disney. As you go through the exhibit there are video screens of Walt Disney interviews and other historic interviews which touch upon the major events of his life that lead to his success. The artificacts in the displays correspond to each of the videos and follow in a chronological order.Be sure to catch the free "docent talks" and "screenings" they schedule throughout the day.Little children may get bored, however, my kids 12 & 14 appreciated the museum and found it very educational.Well worth spending an afternoon.

great place for young and old. Did the train exhibition first before it got busy. Sadly this exhibition ends on 15th. March. Allow plenty of time. Ample parking. Good food in cafe but not much seating.Quite costly admission fees. Try booking online as it saves standing in queues. Very young children may get a bit bored

I wasn't overly keen on attending the museum, however my friend wanted to so I tagged along. Enjoyed it a lot, and provided some great insight into the Disney timeline from the early beginnings of the Disney family until the death of Walt. Not so much a children's museum, would be appreciated more by older Disney fans. Recommended.

Perfect setting for a most unique museum experience! The layout of the museum is methodical and with purpose. Much care and effort went into the presentations and exhibits. Great detail in the exhibit explanations and timelines. Wonderful interactive peices. This museum explores and delivers the life and times of Walter Elias Disney - from boyhood to death, and all of his experiences in between. This is not a museum solely about Disneyland. ARRIVE EARLY and plan to spend two to three hours or more. You may take your camera - but NO flash pictures are allowed. Snack shop and gift shop are contained within the building.

We visited the Walt Disney Family Museum and was very disappointed with the content. It was almost all about Walt's life, his early days and growing up. It just didn't interest me or my partner. Walt's life is not what got him famous, it's all about the characters and Disney Land & World.

As the name said, it is a really nice place to bring your family to visit the museum where they can see the progress of the characters they love.

A most interesting dive into anything you could ever want to know about Walt Disney, his family, and his legacy. This is not a museum for young children, but for older teens and adults who are truly interested in the life of this great American icon. Of special interest to me were the clips of the old cartoons from Disney's earliest years, the scale model of Disneyland, and all of his Academy Awards, including the special Academy Award he received for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It's not that easy to get to (I took a taxi from my hotel) but it is in a beautiful area overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. If you go, allow at least 2-3 hours.

Lets be clear, this isn't about Mickey or Minnie, it's about Walt Disney and the family history. It's quite interesting to learn the history of the Disney family and what they had to do to get to where they are today. It's not expensive to visit but I would say once you've visited, you probably don't need to visit again.

At the time we visited this museum it had an exhibition on Walt Disney's railway. This is due to finish on 15th March. Notwithstanding the end of the exhibition this is a first rate museum on the life and times of Walt Disney from the days of his childhood to his death, with the major landmarks of his life highlighted including getting into cartoons and theme parks. To get the best out of your visit you will need to allow 3 hours, especially if you are going to watch all the audio visual features. If you have any interest in the life of Walt Disney and his creations then this is the place to go.

As regular visitors of Disneyland and Disney World we thought it would be fun to check out Walt's Family Museum. This museum had a lot of interesting information and memorabilia dating back to Walt's childhood, including family photos and some early home movies. I found the displays about Walt's movies and cartoons to be the most interesting. There is also a large model of Disneyland towards the end of the tour which was fascinating to look at. The museum is in the heart of the old Presidio Army Base overlooking San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. It is an excellent location for this worthwhile exhibit.
