You can take the ferry for one way or both ways - but don't skip it. Fun experience even with hard to please teenagers. Stop for a quick slice of NY style pizza while you wait on the ferry.

A 3 car ferry for a 3 minute ride - when you step off on the other side of the channel, life just seems a little better

A cute little ferry takes three cars and foot and bike passengers to the lovely Balboa Island! One dollar per ride! Walking the circumference of the island is such a visual treat! Marie Street has a nice assortment of shops. An afternoon well spent!

In the winter it isn't too crowded. We took our bikes over on the ferry early in the morning and enjoyed the calm and quiet.

While exploring Balboa, we decided to take the ferry over to the actual island and to our surprise $1.00 each way is a STEAL, especially for California! There are two or three ferries constantly going back and forth so you rarely have to wait. The bargain and time saved rather than driving is 100% worth it!

The boat might not be the nicest but for a dollar it's totally worth the 5 minute trip across the bay.

We were having a beach day and really spent the day at various parts of the coast, enjoying the beaches, piers and the views. On our way back to the hotel our Sat Nav took us to the Balboa Island Ferry and we just decided to ride with it. It was bit of a wait until it was our turn to take the car to the ferry, the ride was short but it gave us nice views and more photo opportunities and a chance to see Balboa Island.

The ferry only goes a few hundred feet but the views of the bay and floating that bay with your car is awesome and only costs a few bucks.

Whenever guests come to town we always do a Newport Tour which would not be complete without the Ferry ride. Everyone is amazed that this little gem is even in existence and it's a great way to view the harbor from the water.

We chose to take the Ferry rather than just come across the bridge - it was the first time Ive had the car out over water - you do get some great views - charge for me with 2 passengers was $4.00 - we also got some info from the skipper on where to eat while there. The Ferry can take 3 cars at a time and the day we were there they had 3 Ferry's running - just something different to do.

Shortest, smallest ferry ever, but only $1.50 to cross over. We rode in a taxi on the ferry on the way over and came back on foot.

Well, it's a "ferry" but don't have large expectations. It literally takes 3 minutes to cross the channel. Bring cash, they just take your dollar bills right there, and they have change. We were interested in Balboa Island which was fine... not too exciting. A few restaurants and shops and that's about it. We could have probably skipped this part of the trip altogether but we didn't have anything else on the agenda and were just enjoying the beautiful weather.

Wouldn't be a visit to Balboa without a ride on the ferry. Still one of the best values in the area, and a great way to get out on the water inexpensively.

I have 2 young children that I took on the ferry to get to Balboa Island. They loved it! They thought driving the car on was so neat. Very fun short trip on the ferry and very affordable!

We've been using this fairy for many years. It was fun when our kids were small, and it's still fun to take any visiting guests. Both sides of the island offer fun shops and restaurants. The fun zone is great for younger kids.
