If you only have one day go up to see these view.. the most gorgeous in California. Maybe in the US... All I know is Redwoods so close to the city is an amazing combo...

I've read about Grizzly Peak as something locals go see. I was visiting the area and my cousin suggested this place. If you're from an area where it's flat driving, the drive can be a little nerve racking. There are steep, sharp parts with curves while going through a residential area with walkers and riders. Locals are used to it and well want to go fast. If they are behind you, pull into a turnout and let them pass. Once you reach the top is an absolutely indescribable view. Gorgeous doesn't begin to describe the view. Go before sunset do you can experience the transformation of the view before, during and after sunset.

It is a fun drive up a winding road. It is the perfect place to watch the sunset or get a great view of the bay. If you go up a little ways more you will be at Tilden Park. **BRING A SWEATER

Grizzly Peak is literally a peak, but also a winding road at the top of the Berkeley Hills. It offers spectacular sunset spots and some of the best vantage points to see the city by the bay all lit up at night. Grizzly Peak winds by Tilden Regional Park and it is popular with cyclists, so keep your eyes on the road, it's easy to be distracted! Enjoy the view!

We had so much fun driving to and from this spot and the view of San Francisco Bay is spectacular. So glad we stumbled upon it!

Great view, but too close to the road for my taste. The best part is that it's never foggy compared to SF. Do yourself the favour to hike to this place, instead of taking the car.

Great place for Nature-lovers! You can either drive to the peak (4-5 miles from UCB) or hike to this peak as well. Make sure to have the GPS or map and not lose directions. The view is breathtaking and worth, great for eyes, body, mind and soul!

you know that shot at the very end of the intro? probably taken on the road up to grizzly peak at lawrence labs...and to the last reviewer who complained about how 'dirty'(and tagged) the parking areas are?somewhat correct. so here's my advice...don't eat anything off the 'floor'.otherwise, a lot of how we experience in life depends on where we point the camera, so to speak. or whether we 'zoom in' or 'dolly back'. when something is problematic maybe we need to look elsewhere.like at the view rather than what's under my feet?

Whether it's crystal clear of there's dense fog over the San Francisco Bay, you'll LOVE the views from the Grizzly Peak area. Grizzly Peak isn't a single spot, it's the road along the highest points. There are several pull-off areas where you can take in the sites. But...Garbage, tagging, cigarette butts: They all litter the viewing areas.

"Grizzly Peak" refers to the highest point in the Berkeley hills. It is about 1950 feet tall. There is not really any particular attraction known as "Grizzly Peak," in other words, there is no sign proclaiming, "Grizzly Peak." At most, there is a small area at the shoulder of the road where motorists sometimes stop and park. The viewpoint is fine, and it is somewhat like the view from an airplane. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Tamalpais (2,574 feet high) in Marin County, Mount Vaca (2,818 feet high) in Solano County, and of course, the San Francisco Bay, Treasure Island, and the clouds tumbling over the hills in San Francisco and Sausalito. Another area suitable for viewing the San Francisco Bay, is the parking lot at nearby Lawrence Hall of Science. I have lived in Berkeley, CA since 1969, and in my opinion, it is rare that anybody considers Grizzly Peak to be a tourist destination or to be a "fun attraction." It is just an unmarked shoulder to the side of the road. There are many trails in Tilden Park, located in the Berkeley hills, but there is not any particular trail that leads you to something called, "Grizzly Peak." On the other hand, Grizzly Peak is worthy of mention on TripAdvisor, because of the stellar nearby attractions. First of all, Grizzly Peak Road, and associated roads such as Claremont Avenue, Skyline Boulevard, and Pinehurst Road, are excellent for bicyclists and for roadside hikers. In fact, on a couple of occasions, I have hiked from San Leandro along Skyline Boulevard and Grizzly Peak Road, all the way to Berkeley. As is self-evident to any visitor to Grizzly Peak Road, this area is popular for bicycling. Now regarding the stellar attractions, the "little train" is located a stone's throw from Grizzly Peak. The little train, also known as the "steam train" and also as "Redwood Valley Railway," is a 15 inch gauge miniature railway, established in 1952. It has 1.25 miles of track. The ride costs $3.00 and lasts 12 minutes. The engine is a genuine steam engine that belches steam, and it pulls about 12 passenger cars. A small gift shop sells post cards, hats, pins, hats, and T-shirts, all with pictures of the steam train. Another nearby attraction is Tilden Park Golf Course. Although I do not golf, the facility does have a small restaurant with a menu featuring a concise selection of high-quality meals. What could be finer, than sitting on a sunny patio having lunch, viewing the beautifully manicured rolling hills in this golf course, with its surrounding forest, and watching the various golfers swing their clubs? CONCLUSION. To summarize, the attractions of Grizzly Peak include the bird's eye view from the roadside turnout, excellent thoroughfares for aerobic bicycling, the steam train, the nearby golf course with its restaurant, and nearby hiking trails in Tilden Park and in Oakland hills.

Had this view every night. It never ceased to take my breath away. This photo captures it beautifully. Go to top of Marin Ave where it hits Grizzly. Park & walk…..Thank you for posting this picture. Brought back many wonderful memories.

Winding up the road in Berkeley above the UC Greek Theater you come to Grizzly Peak. It is the most fabulous view spot, looking out on Berkeley and Oakland below, the Bay, the New Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate in the distance. Go during the day or at sunset.

Driving up Grizzly Peak is a fun drive to take. The elevation is just 1759 feet, but the views from there of San Francisco and Bay Area are breathtaking. Its a gorgeous area especially right before the sun set, i.e. watch the sunset, and then watch as the lights turn on to give it a "twinkly" feel.We have enjoyed taking this drive several times and usually we do the drive at least once during Cal Bear Football season (we are season ticket holders so it makes it a fun drive after a day game). The peak got its name from the grizzly bears; grizzly bears used to be in this area until about the mid 1880's.Note: Some hardy souls do bike Grizzly Peak as well. Its also a place some people like to run for a vigorous workout; a close personal friend used to do this as a regular place to run.
