This is a medium difficulty trail to the top of the waterfall. The view is amazing from the top and the source of waterfall is just an amazing site.

There aren't really any "bad" parts of Yosemite, but some things appeal to certain people more than other things might. The Mist Trail is a beautiful trail that will appeal to nearly everyone. There's the first part of the trail, which is a bit hilly but paved and can be accessed by most people of moderate ability, including families with strollers and very young children. Once you get to the bridge, the trail becomes much more challenging, including a steep climb up slippery rock stairs/steps, which leads to the top of Vernal Falls. The mist from Vernal Falls is very heavy, so if you do the climb all the way up to the top, dress accordingly--shoes with good traction are a must! Like most attractions in Yosemite Valley, it can get very crowded in the summer. The steepest part of the trail can be challenging, but I saw kids (under 12) racing past me up the trail. The high altitude and tough climb often left me breathless, and towards the top of the trail I had to stop frequently. The view from the top of Vernal Falls is definitely worth the strenuous hike. Don't forget to bring water (you can refill your bottles at the bridge), sunscreen, and maybe a lunch to enjoy at the top of the falls.

We had never been to Yosemite before this trip (January 2015) and I had didn't know what to expect with the hiking. As I have premature chronic arthritis and bursitis I wasn't sure that I would be able to make any of the "sights"! Luckily I had found the Vernal Falls information and thought that it would be something that our 10 year old and I could both handle (it is rated as "moderate"). Surprisingly, nearly the whole route is a semi-paved path (no winding dirt trails or trailblazing through bushes). When you finally get to the mist area you have to climb a lot of uneven granite stairs...but even those are well-traveled and felt pretty safe. We started in after lunch and were astounded by the number of people on the trail in January...a constant stream in both directions. (Even as we were leaving...after 4pm...people were still heading up!) As many of those coming back down were little kids I knew that it was doable. (Honestly, for me it was way worse coming down! If you have knee problems you might want to pace yourself. And we didn't have a walking stick but I would have liked one!)I have to recommend the hike because families can do it and you don't need to be an athlete nor rock climber. There are some great valley shots to be had on the way there and then when you get to the mist it's well worth the trek. I'm not giving this a 5 star because, honestly, there are just too many people on it. I can only imagine that in late spring and summer it's a massive sea of people. I was constantly looking over my shoulder because fast-paced hikers were "tailgating" me and I had to stop and let them pass a lot! That was annoying. The opportunities for photos are endless but again...there was basically a line for the primo spot under the falls. It's not like you are going to relax and take in the beauty of nature by ignoring the hundreds of other people around you. That being said...I have always heard that Yosemite is packed...and that is why I have never actually been there before now. It is a beautiful place but if you're not a hiker there isn't much to do there and to just go to enjoy the scenery with the tour buses full of people....... I honestly don't think I'll go again in this lifetime. But if you're there...this is a good hike for the masses.

April in the mountains,it was red hot. bring plenty of water,no shops up here....a gentle stroll through the trees, over the bridge and up we go.it gets steeper but the views get better..Nevada falls, breathtaking. The Mist steps, bring a waterproof, steep and wet. then the jewel,Nevada falls. out on the rim overlooking it all, stretch out, have a rest. back via John Muir trail, beer, well done

This is a beautifully kept up trail with good accessibility for all of moderate fitness. The upper mist trail is more tricky and slippery. Most people will want to stop at the view from the bridge.

I walked past Vernal Fall and to a bridge on the way to Nevada Fall, then back down the John Muir trail. This walk is moderately strenuous but well and truly worth the effort.

Be prepared for narrow , uneven steps--which can be treacherously slippery when wet. In the spring if the fall is booming, you WILL get wet. Part of the fun, but it is cold too. Be prepared with a poncho. When trail is crowded there are narrow spots where both up and down traffic are competing for the same steps. Not for the faint hearted or weak hiker.

We walked up to the falls on the Mist Trail, and rather than going back down the steep decline we continued on to Clark Point and returned on the John Muir trail. A fantastic hike.

Yup - keep going up after you've achieved the bridge at the base of Vernal Falls. During autumn, the water flow is lower and you run very little risk of actually getting "misted" to death. I've done this one many times in the spring and, YES, you do get wet! The view into the valley from the top of the granite steps is worth the moaning muscles of tomorrow. Dude, let's face it, conquering the Mist Trail is a must for all those who venture to Yosemite. It's steep, it seems far longer than the trail map says, BUT it's worth it. Take water, take rests if you need to, and definitely take a camera!

This hike is something you must do in spring, when there is lots of water in the rivers and the mist of the falls will drench the trail/ steps and YOU! But it is so fun! You do need to be careful because the trail can be slick and people have fallen and been injured. Wear good hiking shoes and polyester sportswear that dries out quickly. It is a strenuous hike, especially near the end. But worth it if you are up to it.

It is very exhausting. not difficult and rewarding. Although it is probably more rewarding in spring than fall.I really enjoyed being able to finish it.

This is the famous trail leading from the Yosemite Valley up to the top of Nevada fall. Take the "mist" part of it seriously, as you're likely to get wet during most seasons and drenched during the peak run off. Lots of stairs to climb...but beautiful vistas in every direction to help take your mind off the climbing. Make it to the top! It's totally worth it.

This is a relatively short hike directly to the magnificent Vernal falls. "Short and direct" is compensated by the trail's level of difficulty. Listed as "Medium", it can feel intense after the cross roads between this and the (slightly longer path) John Muir trail, where the last set of restrooms are available. Stone steps at the steepest ascent are angled "inward" toward the ground, making it advantageous for ascents, and more challenging (bordering painful) for safe descents from the top of the falls. Wet and moss-covered (step) stones make the ascending path along the falls as hazardous as it is intense. We visited this autumn (also during a drought), so the mist was not as felt and the trail rocks/boulders were white and dry. It was still a challenging ~2miles (one way), with a rewarding view of the falls (albeit with less water and current). We could only surmise the greater beauty (and danger) when the falls are at their fullest. Many points in this trail offer very good photos (if you don't mind some water on your camera), and thus make the hike worthwhile, wherever point you decide to stop.
