I have been to this museum for two weddings. They used to have a great antiques market here too. The grounds are beautiful with huge shade trees and lush lawns. Their gazebo is the perfect place for wedding ceremonies. This is one of the only local venues for weddings that lets you hire your own catering company. A real value for a quaint old world style wedding. They host a holiday boutique and tea every year that is really nice.

The dress and articles -even letters and scripts- used by Mr.Hiram Penniman and some of his family members are preserved here. While moving through the rooms of this beautiful house, I tried to visualize the happy and unhappy occasions the family members would have shared in those rooms. I felt like being seated on a time machine! A member of the staff accompanied me and explained me about all the articles. The museum is open only on Wednesdays and Sundays. Visitors are allowed to take photographs inside the museum only if they enter into a signed contract with the museum authorities that the pictures thus taken wouldn't be used to advertise or to promote sale of goods and wouldn't be uploaded on social websites. I will say this one of the must be seen places in Walnut Creek.

The Shadeland Historical Museum is located in a mid-19 century histroic home in Walnut Creek. Exhibits recreate life in the late 1800, when the Penniman family operated a large ranch and orchard operation. Youngsters enjoy seeing what life was like "in the good old days."

This 1903 Colonial Revival home, registered in The National Register of Historic Places, is complete with original furniture and window treatments; a true Walnut Creek gem. The tour was fascinating and started with a short film. We just happened to stop by an Antique Fair that we now know is an annual June event. Our gifted docent was such a treat as we took a step back in time in this beautifully preserved slice of history and the land surrounding it. I look forward to taking visitors here. It is a must see for anyone who lives in the vicinity as well as out-of-towners. The antique fair was well organized with antiques and crafts, offering a wide selection of unique items. We had so much fun talking with vendors, then sitting down to some very talented guitar players belting out great tunes as we enjoyed our shaved ice. Thank you to all that make this a true experience for visitors of every age. We immediately purchased a membership, money well spent so that future generations can enjoy these tours and events.
