We were lucky to be in SJB for the Christmas parade, where about half the town's population cruises down Third Street in the dark. The other half is cheering them on from the sidewalk. Very old timey America. Elvis was spotted on one of the floats. The street itself has some nice little shops; antiques, clothes, nick-nacks. I'm not much of a shopper, but if you are, check it out.

I didn't even take any pictures. First, several of the buildings are for sale, all but one empty. Five bars in two blocks (one was a bar/restaurant), none of them special, that I could see. I also didn't think that any of the stores I saw were antique stores; really cheesy, tourist-focused stuff. Some of the buildings do date back to the early 19th Century, and that I did appreciate.

It is worth exploring 3rd Street in San Juan Bautista. It has very good antique stores, a bakery, a biker bar (Daisy's) and also restaurants. Our favorite restaurant on 3rd street is Jardines De San Juan, with its good Mexican food and beautiful cactus and flower garden.San Juan Bautista is also known for the mission.Parking is on the street.

San Juan Bautista is a magical little town with a mission, rustic buildings, and a cemetery at the end to round out the western feel. This town has been here for a long time, 130+ years. The street has old buildings with rustic bakery's, cafe's with soda machines, Mexican restaurants with gardens and chickens free ranging, and tiny antique shops that leave you looking for treasure. The street is cute, and when they have events usually full of people and decorations. If you live in the Bay Area, this should be on your list for the weekend.

If you are into antiques this your place. I'm not but it was fun to walk up one side and down the other. There are enough "boutiques" to make it worthwhile. Have an ice cream cone at Margot's and people watch and definitely have lunch or dinner at Jardins. It's an oasis garden and has authentic Mexican food. Best Margarita I've ever had. Any shopkeeper will give you the history of the town and Mission if given the chance.

Close to Mission San Juan Bautista and the state park and close to both SR 156 and US 101, there's great shops to visit and good food to eat on San Juan's Third Street!

Third Street is the historic downtown area of San Juan Bautista. It consists of about 4-5 blocks of historic buildings in which you'll find well-kept shops and restaurants -- antique stores, art galleries, ice cream parlors, specialty shops, etc. The street is one block from the historic Mission San Juan Bautista, which dates back to 1797. Definitely worth spending an afternoon here.

It is a lovely stroll along the old buildings filled with antiques and other shops/cafes. Just down from the Mission which is worth a visit. A great way to spend the day finding treasures and having a good lunch.
