Wow, this place apparently only exists thanks to a state or federal grant. The location used to be, years ago, a Golden Corral restaurant, so it is a relatively large place that has had trouble being filled the past 10 years or so. This new incarnation obviously spent some money on professional signage and a couple exhibits, but it just seemed odd the number of people working there, at least 3-4 when we visited, given the fact the guest book seemed to indicate they averaged a visitor a day. Quite frankly it seems more a monument to waste than the actual county. Still, if you are heading to Lassen National Park from I-5, a very worthwhile visit, you can stop by the visitor center and pick up some brochures for the park and some other attractions in the county.
