Site of a former Carnegie Public Library, this museum was small but it was absorbing to browse through the museum and view art of California artists.

Nice older building, small but with some impressive art. Easy parking along the side and close to old Oxnard, restaurants, park. Also right on the main route to the harbor.

I have never been disappointed by an exhibition at the Carnegie Art Museum. The current David Gallup "Channel Islands" exhibition incorporating his above and below the surface paintings show incredible talent for depicting light and motion.

When they have a show it's worth the trip if you are near by. other wise it's not that big a deal.

The Carnegie is a real find. Located in one of the classic librairys built by Andrew Carnegie, the museum hosts rotating shows primarily of California painters. The shows are always interesting showcasing the extraordinary diversity of California's painting history and present. A short distance off the 101 Freeway in the heart of downtown Oxnard it is well worth a slight detour. The Museum is another of California's surprising pleasures.
