This year was the second time we've vacationed in Oceanside. On our last visit we went to the Thursday morning market, which was quite small, but we bought some produce and pasta and had a pleasant walk around. This year, we happened on the Sunset Market -- oh my! I don't know how anyone can say it's the same as the morning market because it's way, way, way bigger, takes up a lot more street space and is way more crowded. Yes, some of the same vendors are at both but the evening one is a much larger event with many more booths. We went right at 5 p.m. when it opened and decided on the booths where we wanted to eat: hand-cut fries with homemade garlic aioli, southern BBQ (pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese side), amazing sweet (Nutella and banana!) and savory empanadas, Hello Dolly bars. One stand called Na Pali Coast sold things like shaved ice but what caught our eye was their "wookie" with ice cream. The wookie is chocolate chip cookie dough cooked on a waffle grill and topped with a tiny scoop of ice cream. The serving is very small but oh so delicious. We paid $6 each and upgraded our wookie with two scoops of ice cream. Not cheap but very, very good. There is a mix of vendors and, yes, some of the goods are kind of cheap and cheesy but it's all fun to look at. The live music was pretty good -- there were musicians situated in different areas of the market. By 8 p.m. the sidewalks were jammed full and walking around was becoming a bit difficult. We don't love crowds so we'd had enough but the hours we spent there were fun and yummy and we'll definitely go to the evening market again on our next visit.

This was awesome, definitely recommend it if you like the street fair atmosphere. Lots of great food at reasonable prices. Fun booths to check out and interesting people. Was my second favorite thing we did on vacation (beach was first!)

Fabulous food smells, great food vendors, nice atmosphere with good music. Prices were super reasonable and people were willing to let you sample. There was a little booth that had homemade mousse in a couple different flavors that was great we bought two different kinds. The empanadas were great also a bunch of different flavors available on those. We didn't have the bacon wrapped hot dog but they looked really good and we are planning a trip back specifically for those before we leave next week. There were a lot of shopping vendors, but we we more interested in food and music. The kids also thought it was pretty neat.

The morning market was not too different from this evening market. I suppose our hopes (that we would see another crepe making entity) were far too optimistic. Same old crepe company as we saw in the morning (as well as in Little Italy in S.D.) so, what else is there to entice us? We are on the search for dinner! It almost seems like we saw the same food vendors we saw in the morning market. So, what was new? Not a whole lot.We checked out the various vendors and decided upon Gyros and decided to buy from one of the booths. How was it? Not great, not bad, pretty much average. We have high standards, having eaten these in Athens, and Turkey, and Spain. If we were to make a suggestion to those looking for a different experience, try the Thai, Filipino, or almost any other non-gyro business. Our dinner consisted of a gyro pita bread sandwich ($8) and a chicken/salad/chopped pita meal for $12. Would I go back? Probably not. It was okay. We've been to better.Keep in mind that there are a great number of competitively-priced businesses that border the sunset market. I'd keep it in mind for any future visits.

We arrived in Oceanside on a Thursday afternoon, lucky us! Check out the what-to-see stuff & discovered Thursday evening was the Sunset market: crafts, entertainment, & international food of every description. We had ridden our bikes to the event & walked the streets taking in the aromas & sights. It was a surprising highlight to our trip. People were friendly & samples delicious. Choices were difficult to make, but we settled on some real Italian lasagna that was to die for. Keeping international we had Hawaiian ice for dessert. Will definitely put Oceanside on our return list, just for this experience again!

The aromas from vast array of food vendors will be the first thing you notice as you approach the Sunset Market. You can choose from African to Mexican to Jamaican and everything in between. We tried the pastrami and cheese sandwich from the "Philly" Cheese Steak tent. What a treat ! Just forget about the calories and enjoy it by taking it to the Stone Brewery on Tremont. Otherwise, you'll have to juggle your food while avoiding the crowds milling around. Someone should put out "bar" table for people to stand around so they can eat in stead of sitting on a curb. If you are a people watcher, well.. you'll not be disappointed.... and it's "pet friendly". We have been visiting Oceanside for over ten years and always make this a must do on a Thursday night.

Oceanside is never dull. This is a fun market with lots to see. Good variety of food. There is music too. You never know what you might see. There is some character that looks like Keith Richards in silver hot shorts. One week, I enjoyed one patron dancing with her dog, no its not Carlsbad but more interesting.

This is more than a farmers market it is more like a Street Fair with lots of different varieties of food and many people selling crafts . There's usually a band playing and the the scene is really enjoyable. Walking distance to the pier

If you like having plenty of food options, the Oceanside street fair is exactly where you need to be. Several tents set up offering a variety of food choices from Jamaican to New Zealand meat pies. Prices range from $5-$9, depending on how much food you would like. Come early parking may be hard to find. Definitely worth checking out :)

Our family once really loved our time at the Oceanside Thursday night Sunset Market. I love the many different kinds of food available from around the world, the people, the items for sale, and all of the fun games, etc. for children to do.

My wife and I love the Sunset Market - even when it's just for a stroll to see people and their pooches. Yes, it is dog friendly and you'll see everything from a 3 lb Chihuahua to 170 lbs of Great Dane. And if the variety of locals and their pets isn't enough, check out the food. Great way for everyone in a group to get their way - without having to compromise. Hawaiian BBQ, Thai, Vegetarian, Sausages and Burgers, Indian, Filipino, and on and on. And personally, I like to stop into Stone Brewing for a fresh pint (or two) to restore my energy when it flags.Vendors have a fun selection of things - clothing, jewelry, crafts, gifts. My wife bought a pretty sterling silver ring last time - lovely and not too expensive.Live music is always featured, and it's obvious that it's a draw - though my ears don't let me get too close anymore. Kids are sure to enjoy the large inflatable slide that seems to be a regular attraction. In all, good fun on a Thursday night in Oceanside.

Oceanside's Sunset Market and Street Fair has been a local happening every Thursday evening for over a decade now. As a resident of Oceanside for over 30 years, I can tell you that downtown "O" has remarkably changed for the better, and the Sunset Market is one of the reasons why. This isn't your average farmer's market (that takes place in the morning, and is far from average). The Sunset Market is cool. It's hip. It's quirky and funky - with people watching at it's finest. But I may be biased. I am a vendor. I peddle home made caramels. I love Oceanside and our markets and our funky old school beach town vibe.Come to the market hungry as the food is world class and enjoy one of life's little pleasures in Oceanside - the Sunset Market!

The Sunset Market in Oceanside is a great way to spend a Thursday evening. The streets are filled with vendors selling foods of all nations. Definitely come hungry. Something for everyone. There are also lots of stalls with crafts and cool things for sale. There is always a band playing too. A fun night in Oceanside. You can walk to the pier from here too and watch the sunset!
