We are from the Midwest and were visiting Temecula for a wedding. Since we were there on Sunday we were looking for a nice place to have mass. We were hoping that we could find a mass that was fairly traditional. We had heard stories of great liturgical abuses in some areas and were hoping we wouldn't run into any of that while we were here. After checking out the online reviews and web sites of area churches we decided that St. Martha in Murrieta (10 min drive from Temecula) seemed like the safest option. A quick glance at some of the reviews and at the bulletin for St. Catherine in Temecula showed us that this church was going to be a little too far out there for us. The public penance services instead of individual reconciliation sessions gave us pause as to what may or may not be going on in as far as the liberty they might be taking at this church. Hopefully no liturgical abuses are occurring in Temecula, but I didn't want to risk it. Anyway, back to St. Martha in Murrieta. What a wonderful church. We arrived early and were greeted by a friendly usher. He asked us if we would want to bring up the gifts (assuming we were parishioners). We informed him we were from Nebraska, but would still love to bring them up. He had us write our name down on a piece of paper, which was used to call us by name to bring the gifts forward. Word must have spread about our visit as others came up to us to welcome us and thank us for visiting. The church was packed, the music was traditional with an organ, yet done in a tastefully modern way. The people were friendly, the mass was very nice, with a good homily from the Priest. There was a lot of energy in this parish, full of a diverse group of people. A very attractive, welcoming, Catholic atmosphere. It's easy to see why it was packed. Lots of people staying late to spend time in front of the blessed sacrament. Which was great to see. Could not have been more pleased that we stopped here. Would come here again in a heartbeat for mass.
