This is hard for me to say here as this is my home town that I love, however there is not much to see in this small buliding. You can spend your time simply walking around town and if you really would like to see some history take a short walk to the city hall building. It seats on the site of the old Sausalito elementary school where us old guys and girls spent our school days. In the building you can see photos and other items for 'back in the day,

The visitor center should be your first stop for the visit of Sausalito. This picturesque small town, not far from San Francisco: you just need to cross the Golden Gate bridge, is a very nice tourist destination, also famous to "host" a wealthy and artistic enclave,

My review is about Sausalito rather than the visitor's centre. It's a great little village with lovely views and cute shops. There is a great salt water taffy shop there and a choice of restaurants. The boats in the harbour are well worth a look. A good way to spend an afternoob

We came here by the HOHO bus and left by the ferry back to San Francisco. The visitors centre gave ideas as to what to do in this picture pretty postcard town which does have rather expensive and some quirky shops designed for the tourist.Sausalito is very green and very expensive. On our first visit here many years ago, the person showing us around told me that when he first came to Sausalito it reminded him of his visit to us in the Isle of Man.

Located right at the docks, it is a great first stop on your visit to Sausalito. The staff were very well versed on the area and very friendly. We would have taken a 2 mile walk (we have mobility limitations) to see the houseboats if it hadn't have been for their advice. Their map of the city was also quite helpful.

Catch the ferry at the Ferry Terminal, 30 minutes to cross the bay. Buy the "clipper card" we didn't . It is a lot cheaper than the alternative. The town has cafés, restaurant, art galleries, and sea lion at the dock. The ferry runs ever 30 minutes , last one returns to San Francisco around 7:00 P M.

Very beautiful, cute little town just few miles away from busy San Francisco. Sight of the beach is beautiful and Rodeo beach is very close by. Visitor center has lot of information. You can take a ferry from SF or drive over the Golden Gate Bridge. Nice way to spent your afternoon strolling around the streets and peeping into all little local shops and having abundant restaurants to choose from.Parking was free during tthe holidays but lot of street parking as well as water front parking lot available.Big yacht club available!

We went to a place called Sausalito and Gosh the location is fantastic with spectacular view of downtown San a Fransisco, Alcatraz, and a glimpse of their famous bridges.

Take the ferry from the San Francisco Ferry building to Sausalito then stroll thru the park, dine, shop and have Lapperts Ice Cream! Be sure to take the ferry boat back at sunset or evening for a spectacular view of San Francisco Bay Bridge, City and Oakland Bay bridge. If you have time rent a bike but be aware that if taking the bike on the ferry the wait is long. Best to walk it!

If you are visiting SF and have limited time, I would not recommend Sausalito at all. It is small town with nothing to do - just eclectic shopping and eating. The Visitor's Center is a small building with a cute old lady who goes on-and on-and on about how bad the tourist map of Sausalito is and how visitor's do not bother to look at the back side of the map. The Visitor Map lists 23 small shopping stores, 23 restaurants, 13 cafes, and only 4 real attractions (I am not counting rental centers as an attraction): Bay Area Discovery Children Museum, The Marine Mammal Center, Bay Model Visitor Center, and Spaulding Wooden Boat Center.Positive points (which has very little to do with Sausalito itself):- Ferry ride was comfortable and fun, especially on the way back to see how amazingly they fit an endless line of bicyclists on the ferry;- SF skyline view is beautiful (but it's beautiful from everywhere);- You can see docked yachts and vessels (but you can see them at SF marina, no need to go to Sausalito for it);- We walked all the way to the Bay Model Visitor Center (the entrance is free), however if you are not in to the science of tides and hydraulics, you can skip that. The size of the 3D bay model is very impressive, though. No wonder several tours allow just 1 hour for Sausalito (or less then an hour during winter months) because there is nothing to do there. I guess our mistake was that we planned/ tried to spend the whole day there. So, if Sausalito is not one of the stop on the tour, skip that. My recommendation - save your time for the beauty of San Francisco.

If you are in San Francisco, do not miss a side adventure to the seaside village of Sausalito. Lots of restaurants, almost all on the water with great views of San Francisco, complemented by a large variety of boutique style shopping for trinkets, jewelry, art, or t-shirts. It is a lovely little walking village accessible by car, taxi, or the ferry. We always take the morning ferry and eat lunch here followed by a little shopping and then the ferry back to San Francisco. If you are in San Francisco, take the Blue & Gold ferry over to Sausalito to make the day even better (see my review of the ferry).

We visited this little town after a long hike in Muir Woods. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from. A lot of the places are a bit pricey but there are some places that are more moderately priced as well. The center square of the town has a pretty fountain and cool lamp posts that make a good backdrop for taking pictures. There's a great little candy store called Munchies that has a good selection and great prices with plenty of choices to satisfy the sweet tooth. The ferry ride back to the Ferry Building in SF is very relaxing and picturesque.
