This course is just over 50 years old. When it was first opened, greens generally were maintained with what would now be termed a Stimp of 7 or 8. With modern techniques greens can easily run at a Stimp of 12 or 13. That is often a bad idea. Such is the case at Pala Mesa. I putted extremely well, making 6 birdies, yet there were three or four greens that I found unputtable. If you cannot stop an eight foot putt within six feet of the hole, something is wrong.Overall, the course is attractive and well maintained, but something should be done to make the greens playable.

Which isn't saying much, poor size coffee pot. Adequate and convenient to our destination. We didn't try the restaurant.

Found this course through San Diego Golf Guide. It was a 35 minute drive north of Carlsbad where we were staying. Would have been less if we didn't get caught by so many traffic lights. When driving up to the course, noticed some holes along the highway and they looked narrow. The fee wasn't too bad at $62 per player, that included green fee, cart and GPS. The GPS wouldn't always work, depending where in the mountains you were, it often disconnected. The course was mainly narrow by my standards, and the blue tees were roughly 6200 yards. That's about the length I like to play. It's a good course in that you have many elevation changes and it's nice to have varying holes to play. I didn't think the greens were in that great of shape, but still ok. They had decent speed to them and most putted true.So many courses to choose from and we were satisfied with this place.

This is an interesting, challenging golf course that is typically well maintained and managed. I have never stayed there. There is a driving range and a well stocked pro shop. It is worth the 45 minute drive from my home. Since it is inland, it is hot in the summer months.

The 'Stay and Play' Package includes two rounds of Golf on a Championship Course. a very nice Room. A Bar and Restaraunt that exceeds expectations and a very pleasant staff. All for around a $100 per person. Hard to Beat. a Great Deal.

The golf is challenging. Aquaterra the restaurant is awesome. And they have fun events on the weekends in the summer. Great venue for weddings and parties not to mention corporate events as well.

This course was in pretty good shape although some fairways had ground under repair of were just plain bare and dried out. Generally though, the course is a beauty with a lot of elevation changes and nice scenery. Fairways are generous, greens not tricked up. Pace was great, finished 18 in 3 1/2 hours. The course runs through some nice residential areas the only negative being heavy traffic sound from the interstate highway. Would definitely recommend and hope to return. Golfnow had a great price too. Btw, try a hot dog or sandwich near the pro shop, yummy.

The price was right, unlimited golf and a one night stay at the hotel for $169.00. We played the course at 11:00 am and 8:30 am. Neither time were we pressed as it appears the course does not get a lot of play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The course was built, according to the tee flags, in 1963. It is a relatively flat layout with virtually no water and bunkering mostly around the greens. Clearly it was built for the average golfer which is not to say it can't be challenging for the low handicapper. We were two couples with only one low-handicapper among us. For us the course was ideal. There certainly were so burned out areas but the greens overall were in good shape. There were at least two holes where they are in the process of either building, or rebuilding, new tee boxes. At one point (I think #16) everyone was teeing from the same spot. Overall a good, not expensive test for most golfers who like to play some of the legacy courses in Southern California.

I stayed here alone for two nights in July 2013 as San Diego was very expensive because of Comi-Con. I had a great time.A nice pool to relax in, good quality bedrooms, very quiet and peaceful. Excellent food and good service in the restaurant. Just what I needed at the start of my holiday!

played there today Sept 8th and it was in pretty good shape. They said the greens were 12's but more like 9's . They were in good shape, the fairways were a bit dry but certainly playable, especially when you stayed on them vs going OB. Tight course, not for the timid. Not overly scenic but then it's golf, not a hike looking for panoramic views. Near the Highway so had a couple noisy holes, one slow group in front but kept it under 4.5 hrs...

We stayed there one night while traveling for a wedding. Very nice place, reasonably priced, good food and drink. Golf course looked nice but I could tell the mere mention of it would have landed me in hot water! Clean, nice place. We'd go back.
