Great place to get away for some peace and quiet out of the city. Grab a cabin with a fireplace and a lake view. Then just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Rates are cheaper in January to March. I stayed Sunday thru Wednesday and it was awesome. Cabin is clean in every way. Might want to bring a larger coffee cup and mixing bowls is you need might need them. Four bundles of wood per night needed, which can be purchased at front office. Recommend cabin 02 Owen. Bed wasn't too bad either a little hard but expected. Been to this State Park Summer, Fall and Winter love it every time.

We've stayed here during the summer. The Owens cabins have a really nice screened in porch just a few steps away from the outdoor fire pit and picnic table. The cabins are pretty basic. But you go here for the nature, not the cabin. The winter experience is so much different. It is just quieter and the scenery is serene in a very different way. During the week, the place was nearly empty. Hiking the trails and the woods with snow falling was incredibly peaceful, with the occasional horn blast from the trains down in the river valley. Even during the winter, everything seemed well maintained.

Spent the weekend with family at Platte River State Park. What a beautiful area and fantastic facilities. We booked a 3 bedroom cabin with a fireplace. The cabin set amongst the trees and beside a lake was so picturesque. The cabin was listed as sleeping 8 but actually only slept 6. Everything that one would need in a kitchen was there. Plenty of walking trails and things to do.

yes, we know that Mahoney State Park bills itself this way, but we like PRSP as well. Several years we have rented their Lodge for our family (80-95 people) Christmas Party. Lots of sledding opportunities outside, fireplace & great kitchen inside. We've also rented cabins there & would highly recommend fall when the leaves are turning.

We rented one of the modern cabins at the state park. It was right by a little pond, a beautiful view. The park is serene and quiet. The cabin was spacious, heated, and well laid-out, with a full kitchenette. The town of Louisville has a little grocery store, a pharmacy, etc.. We loved our stay!

Maybe it is because we have stayed at Mahoney State Park the last two years but Platte River was just not what we expected. First and most disturbing to us was that, after a 10 hour drive with 6 kiddoes we arrived at 7pm (the office was supposedly opened until 8pm through September) to find no open office and no key left! We drove through the park for about 1/2 an hour and finally just found our cabin and let ourselves in through an open back door. We were not pleased about this but had no idea what to do next! The lady working the office in the morning only said that a key should have been left but we could not figure out where it even would have been left as there was no overnight box or anything like we are accustomed to at places like this. We kept trying to enjoy ourselves but little thing after little annoying thing kept happening. One of our boys had an overnight accident and we were told that new sheets were only issued when stays were 7 days or more (we were there 6 days). We sat the sheets outside where the people pick up the towels and they would not even take them. The shower is so tiny (we were in the biggest cabin available at the park) that you could not even move out of the water to soap up. The cabin is advertised to sleep 8 but when we arrived we found that the pull out sofa had red writing on it that said Do Not Open. We had to double up kids in the bunk beds which were different sizes! The bunks on the left of the room are tiny beds and the ones in the right if the rooms are twin. We put two of our littler boys on a small bunk and our two daughters on a twin. The rooms are tiny! No place for a dirty clothes pile even and we did not really want it in the living room! The playground we found was ok - the swings were crooked with no way to fix them and there were erosion holes all over. Like I said - maybe we were spoiled by Mahoney (which was full this year so we could not get a reservation there) but we will not be staying at Platte River again. Both parks were full but Platte was the only one with two cabin openings (we were traveling with friends) that came up during the year (we tried to reserve in October of last year!).

We just returned from the park. This is a must stay for families OR couples. They have cabins to accommodate several families for reunions or Smaller cabins for a couple getaway. So many things to do! You must try the lodge restaurant it serves a great breakfast, they will cook Your eggs to order if you wish. The burgers for lunch were good also, Our cosy cabin gave us a wonderful view of the woods. During a light shower at dusk we spotted a red fox darting from bush to bush. They have a great trail system there and that is a must to see the flora and fauna. We were lucky enough to have the trail to ourselves . It's a good Walk .... we noticed two juvenile Racoons pop their heads up out of their hollowed tree as we stopped to Re-group. We each observed the other for about 5 minutes before they decided to pop back down, Awesome! The crafts are fun , the pool relaxing, paddle boats, horseback riding, and several other activities for everyone. This park is a must visit

For close the same price as other campgrounds in Nebraska you can score a teepee for the night. The park is well maintained and has walking paths that lead to a small but beautiful fall. I went camping with my 2 dogs, 1 small and 1 very large. I brought a tent to set up inside the teepee so my little adventure dog wouldn't go wandering after sounds in the night. Next time I come out I'll bring my friends and rent the whole teepee village. It would make for a fun get together!

We love this park because it's quiet and not as busy as the others. The trails are nice. We have stayed in a couple of the Owens cabins and they are always nice.

We have been visiting this park for years and it remains one of our favorites. It doesn't get as much attention as it's younger brother (Mahoney State Park) just a few miles away, but that's one of the things we appreciate. There seems to be fewer people and more privacy, and with the older, more established trees and nature, this park is really perfect for us. There are nice picnic areas if that is your thing, but there is also a restaurant that operates during the summer months. We have never used it, but there is also a swimming pool that is open during the summer. There are lots of cabins nestled in the wooded areas and around a small lake that look quite inviting although we have never stayed in them. Just day trips for us. Some cabins are fully equipped and are open year round while others are just rustic and you provide everything, as in bedding, towels, cookware, etc. The primitives also do not have toilets, you share a community toilet and showers in the various cabin areas. Also available for camping is a Pawnee teepee village with community toilets. The tepees are on platforms and spaced far enough apart in the woods to have almost total privacy. We were told that folks set up tents inside the tepees as the tepees alone do not protect against bugs and other undesirable critters that might creep in. Bet the kiddies would get a kick out of camping like this. There are lots of paved roads to drive ( we have a convertible) as well as hiking paths. Also a horse stable for horseback riding in the park. There are nature areas and a craft area for the kids. But one of the summertime's big draws seems to be Owen's Landing on the little lake. There are a dozen little paddle oats that can be reasonably rented by the half hour. Lots of families and children were out there enjoying one of the last nice weekends of summer. There's a small snack shack right on the landing that serves, among other things, huge yummy soft serve cones for $1.00! What a deal! Plenty of tables and chairs there to relax on. The small lake is also a catch and release fishing spot for kids 15 and under. There are also 3 large gray geese and 2 ducks that appear to live near the lake and the children were having fun watching them waddle around and swim. The area of the park near the restaurant also has a large lookout tower that is worth the climb. Lovely views in all directions. I think viewing the Fall foliage from up there would be awesome. You need a Nebraska State Park permit for entrance. Worth the price.

Our family has gathered for a reunion at this park for 2 years now and we're planning on returning next year. The park is 20-30 minutes away from the city attractions of the Omaha metro, so guests can visit the zoo, the air and space museum, or any other number of fun things! OR, even better than that, guests can stay in the park and enjoy the quiet solitude of nature. Because of the close proximity to Omaha, cell phone coverage is still good, but I'd suggest you leave it on your nightstand and take a hike, ride the paddleboats, fish with your kids, try out the shooting range and go on a trail ride. The cabins are adequate and affordable and the staff is very friendly, yet respectful of the fact that you are there to spend time with your family, not to be bothered by them.
