we love this bike path. It's paved for the vast majority of it and while there are some gradual inclines and declines it is still overall fun for everyone.Great views and beautiful scenery. Walk your bike on the inclines if you are so inclined.

We didn't spend much time here, but the day we spent walking the bike trails, exploring the woods and swimming in the lake at South Lake Tahoe was, by far, one of the best parts of our family vacation. This involved 2 parents and 3 "boys" 20 yrs - 18 yrs., but would have worked equally well for younger children. The area is pristine and busy with chipmunks skittering among the gorgeous, tall pines. The clumps of large rocks were an irresistible temptation for climbing and it was just so refreshing to be in the fresh air! The lake was absolutely the cleanest lake I've ever seen. We were in the very chilly water (once you catch your breath it feels great!) up to our necks and could clearly see out toes! There was even an area for dogs to play in the water! The next time we will plan to spend the day, pack a lunch, a blanket to lie on (the beach sand is a little coarse, but deep and soft) and a football or beach ball to toss around. Very clean and shady camping is available right near the beach, as well. Totally a 5 star vacation spot for anyone who enjoys the outdoors!

What a wonderful way to get to great places! We stayed in a cabin right off the path. We walked or biked to Pope Beach, a mile away. We passed a gorgeous meadow and were able to bike right onto the beach. The path is mostly smooth and pretty wide. There are lots of places to stop - to look, walk, eat, use a bathroom. Our issues were not with the path, but with the streets you occasionally have to cross or be alongside of, and the other folks biking. Not everyone has a bell or knows bike courtesy, to warn you when they're coming alongside you. It was a busy time with families and groups and sometimes it was a bit dicey. BUT - that is not the path's fault :-). It's great - you just have to be careful.

I spent the weekend of September 14th - 17th at the Cal-Neva Resort at Crystal Bay on North Lake Tahoe, NV. I rode my bicycle around the lake on Saturday, September 15, 2012. The weather was beautiful. I started at 7am at Crystal Bay, and finished at 5pm. The distance is about 75 miles. I took plenty of photos, and many rest stops. You can't appreciate the beauty of Lake Tahoe if you don't stop, occasionally, and just look at it. There are many challenging hills to overcome. The biggest is traveling east out of South Lake Tahoe on Hwy 50, to the junction going north to Incline Village, NV. There is also a couple of big hills aroung the Emerald Bay section in California. A rider should be prepared to take on these challenging hills. On the California side, there is an off road, multi-use trail for part of the distance. There are some narrow sections on the road, but sharing the road with autos isn't a problem. The people in cars are very accommodating to bicycle riders. On the Nevada side, most of the distance is in the Lake Tahoe State Park. There is very little human developement on the Nevada side. There is a good shoulder and plenty of room for bicycles on the road.On Sunday, September 16th, I rested on Kings Beach and went swimming in Lake Tahoe. The water wasn't cold, and there was a lot of activity on the beach. It seems September is a good time to travel around Lake Tahoe. The summer busy-ness is over and there is a more relaxed atmosphere. The weather is beautiful and at scenery is spectacular.

Do yourself a favor. Go to the visitor center and get a bike path map. It's clearly marked for bike paths, lanes and routes. The paths are a little in need of repair in places, but not at all bad. Really appreciate the planning that went into the creation of them. The one thing I'd say that was awkward was the end beyond Baldwin Beach. It just ends. There's no turnaround. That end of the path takes you past several State beaches, and a few private as well, some historic sites, and stores.

Living in the desert in AZ, our annual Anniversary trip to Lake Tahoe, NV. brought a wonderful cool reprieve from our hot summers! It was 72 degrees during the day (not 117), and sunny and gorgeous....as usual. The hotel-Harrahs--surprised us with a nice room, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, balloons, a free lake cruise, etc. Of course we are frequent gamblers for Harrahs...that helps! But our annual vacation in Tahoe was a little different this year....as the bike path along the lake is under heavy construction.....very difficult to enjoy walking along the lake as we usually do. But when it's completed it will be wonderful! Harrahs was a great hotel....we dined on our anniversary at Friday's Station with a sunset view of the Lake. All in all.....a nice place to visit. They have tightened up the slot machines quite a bit though....didn't win at all.

Staff was excellent (especially Steven) in assisting us for a great bike ride. The bike path is easy and great for exercise. This bike rental place has bicycles that can accommodate all ages. We took Steve's advice and stopped at the Beacon Bar & Grill for a lake shore dining. It was definitely a good restaurant choice. Don't forget to bring bottles of water for the ride. This is a pleasant family activity.

We were the first guest of the day at 8:00 am. The owner greeted us and got our bikes. He was very helpful in guiding us on our way. He told us where to go and what to see. It is right on the bike path which makes it ideal as leaving point. The Cost is fair and this is a must do activity in tahoe.

The people are genuinely nice and only the visitors from bay area make it unsafe. There are flat biking paths for families including the tahoe keys path leading to tahoe keys beach. There are paths past camp richardson along lake winding thru forrests. Biking, hiking, beach, tahoe has it all.

Started out at Anderson Bike rental on hwy89 at 13th ave, about a mile from the Y (intersection of hwys 50 and 89). They're really friendly, but not sure if they're just angling for tips. He had a nice spiel about what to see and do on the bike path, and was very patient with us and our youngins.Bike path winds through beautiful woods with glimpses of the lake. Pope Beach and Tallac Park are nice access points to see the lake up close. Kind of secret spots, so don't go telling all your friends...Camp Richardson, about 15 minutes along the path, offers snacks. In the colder months, like now (early November), enjoy hot chocolate at the Camp Richardson general store, and sit by the nice warm fire.We came last summer and had terrific hot club sandwiches here and enjoyed them on the grass. Also in Camp Richardson is some ice cream/coffee place across the street from the general store. DELICIOUS homemade icecream, giant scoops for half the price of coldstone. This one is not that secret. The grass outside was definitely happening with locals and tourists alike.Right now, the salmon are spawning! There is a nature preserve near the end of the bike path starting near the bridge over the creek. Look in the creek for the salmon hanging out, post spawn, smoking their cigarettes. Awesome!
