This is a nice diversion for young and old. They have a short excursion with narrative along the way. Several restored pieces of equipment to view and the history this railway played in building the Hoover dam is worth the short jaunt from Vegas. They operate on weekends and if your nearby or a railway lover membership is reasonable to support this bit of history.

My husband and I went on a Sunday at 4 pm and it was closed. The train was still neat to look at. Took a couple of pictures. I think it would have been fun to go on the train.

Go back in time into the era of steam trains. Visit the restored cars and go for a ride from the depot to near the Railway Pass Casino. Then take the donkey engine ride into the yard to look at other rail cars under reconstruction.

We did the train ride last night with a 18 month old and 3 year old. We bought the dining car experience; cookies, hot chocolate, a story, singing and Santa. They do a really good job; mostly volunteers; I appreciate the high school boys wearing suits and leading Christmas Carols. If I had it to do again I would have gone during the day; my grandkids were a bit young and there was nothing to see outside because it was so dark. Also it was cold. The Museum had a lot of photo ops but again low lighting and cold

I rode the Santa Train this past weekend and had a great time watching the kids interact with Santa as we traveled down the tracks from the Boulder City station of the NV Southern RR to Railroad Pass, It was also fun to see, and ride the scale live steam locomotives that are on the same grounds. There was a 1875 steam locomotive running too! Always fun to ride a train!

A beautiful and old fashioned way of spending an afternoon. Next time we are bringing our 2 Yr old granddaughter. The air conditioned train goes thru landscape and hills with nice overhead explanation over how and where everything happens. It's a 40 minute round trip ride, but worth it. Enjoy! US locals did.

We brought the entire family and grandparents to the Nevada Southern Railway Excursion. A fun time was had by all. The staff were both knowledgeable and friendly. My youngest got to climb into the "drivers seat" and pose for pictures. A unforgettable memory indeed. Thanks Nevada Southern Railway!!

Went here to visit on an afternoon tour. Wonderful trip for families with younger children. The trip is basically a train ride for a couple of miles and then returns going backward on the same track. This is a small operation, and is working to try to build itself into something more. Cars are air conditioned, and we needed it on the day we were there it was 105 degrees. Was also a nice break on the way to Hoover Dam that day to see the main attraction in this area.

We recently moved our business and our home to Las Vegas. The first weekend we could take some time to explore, we visited the Southern Nevada Railroad Museum! What a blast. The people who volunteer their time are wonderful, the trains at the museum are awesome, and the 1.5 - 2.5 scale steamers down below the main rail offer a fantastic ride around their railroad, Highly recommended for all ages. We have subsequently became members of the organization and will be donating our time so we can be a part of the action!

Taking the train from the Boulder City train station to Railroad pass is a wonderful excursion for families and their children. Kids always seem to enjoy a train ride. It is not too long and you can choose to sit inside or in an open air car.

We found this attraction on tripadvisor so decided to make a stop on our way to Hoover Dam. Plus, my son is really into trains so this seemed to be a perfect fit. We were not disappointed. We were able to walk around some of the locomotives and train cars they have at the station/museum and then were able to take a short train ride to Railroad Pass. They have air conditioned cars as well as some open air cars on the ride (you can walk between them). We did not see the old train boneyard so I don't have any reviews of that. But overall, we had a great time and spent just enough time there for the attention span of a 2 year old.

Overall, this was a great experience for my two children, ages 11 and 6. We arrived about thirty minutes early for the scheduled departure. There are some trains on site that you can look at. All but one had signs to "Keep Off". The one you could go on was a mail car. It had a small section with a movie playing about the history of the mail cars. The rest was a replica of an old mail car which was pretty cool. The girls thought the toilet was pretty funny. They have a small gift shop which had a lot of inventory. The entire museum is run by volunteers which was pretty impressive. A conduct yelled out "All Aboard" when it was time to board the train. Once on board, you could choose from a enclosed car or an open air car. Once on our way, the conductor narrated which was really cool since he pointed out things I didn't know. At the end of the ride, they offer a free train ride to the "Bone Yard" where you can see trains waiting to be refurbished. All in all, a pretty cool place to check out. If I had one complaint, it would be the length of the ride. Understanding they only have so much rail to work with, it would be much better if the ride lasted longer. In total, the ride took 45 Minutes round trip. However, the narrator did say they where expanding in the next few years to 80 minutes round trip. I will definitely be back when they do. But in the end, the kids had a blast and that's all that matters. Great Job Nevada South Railway!

The Museum offers, for a reasonable fee, a very short run down the last remnants of the rail line that brought hundreds of tonnes of material from the main line in Las Vegas to the Boulder (now Hoover) Dam site in the late 1930's. The excursion is usually hauled by a nicely-renovated Union Pacific diesel. The consist is made up of restored passenger cars. The trip is about 3 miles each way, and brief, but for children who have never seen, let alone ridden, a real passenger train, it is an experience to be remembered. For us older folks, who weren't able to get from one place to another except by train back in the "Old Days", it is a fleeting nostalgic moment. And the scenery ain't bad, either.

Stuck in Vegas, due to Government closure of Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and National Parks? Use your weekend to drive to Boulder City! This train takes you on a 40 minute round trip ride from Boulder City rail station (behind Taco Bell on Yucca St) to Railroad Pass, you also get the opportunity to see the "old train boneyard". The volunteers are all very friendly and informative on the history of the trains and their demise in the area. $10.00/adults and $5.00/child (I think); Also, if you take your train stub to the Taco Bell and buy a large drink you get a taco & cinnamon twist free of charge! Open only on weekends. Currently selling tickets for Halloween (last week-end in October) & Christmas train rides.
