The exhibits and history are excellent. Wish we had more time to watch the movies but what we were able to view was interesting. This is a place that you should go out of your way to visit.

Great museum covering unusual topics like river and bar pilots as well as history of the area. Lots of information about the Coast Guard.

Visiting Astoria, Ore., must include a stop at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. A long stop! Regardless of your level of interest in history, this museum has something for everyone. There is great information on the overall history of the area relative to its waterways, including the fishing industry, immigrant contributions to the area, the Coast Guard and military history. I was particularly interested in the WWII section - great info on the Japanese attacks and the role Oregon played in the Pacific theatre during the war. Allow enough time to read the exhibits and enjoy the boat replicas. YYou won't be disappointed

I liked visiting here the museum Is beautifully set up clean modern ..my favorite part would have been the 3d movie they offer for an additional fee to the entrance fee. One of the best 3d films I've watched and while explaining a lot of information does it in an attractive and entertaining way. Also highly liked the tour of the light boat outside

Even if you are not into boats and maritime themes, go to this museum. We lost track of time there, very interesting history of "the bar" also known as the grave yard of the pacific. Also lots of the Coast Guard training that is near by to rescue people who get caught here. The mighty Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean and at times waves of 30'+ and 60 knot winds. A small group of elite bar pilots get the boats safety in and out. A very modern and informative place.

spend some time here and don't rush.very informative about the area and the river.I never realized how important the USCG is and how dangerous the job can be.

The museum is highly focused on the rich local maritime heritage of the area, with many exhibits that are somewhat unique. The museum is much larger than I had anticipated, and my wife and I spent about 3 1/2 hours at the museum. We toured the museum on Saturday, February 21 and were told that the lighthouse ship tours end at noon. We were early, and am glad that we were able to tour the ship (I had never heard of a lighthouse ship). Travelers should confirm that that the ship tours are available.

Great place to learn the history of the area. Lots of interesting exhibits. Great location. You can even tour the ship outside.

We really enjoyed our visit to the museum, including the Lightship. Very well done for old and young alike. Had a good representation of historic maritime information right on up to current information. The boats on display also gave a good representation of what life on the ocean is like. Five Star!

This was a fascinating and well-put-together museum. We spent over three hours here, and probably could've stayed longer!

I took two young boy children to this museum. One aged five, the other aged ten. We stayed for a few hours and there was no wining about being bored and all that stuff. We also did the submarine and it was awesome. The boys got to sit at the controls. We also got to see the living quarters and hear about life on a sub. It was fascinating. We will visit again.

Who knew that one of the most dangerous travel routes for ships was where the Columbia River enters the ocean? This museum did a good job of telling about "the bar" and the many ships and souls lost. The lightship tour was nice too. I love history and my husband is former Navy, so it was fun for us both!
