We were lucky to meet Patricia, who is a wonderful hostess. The wines are excellent, and the knowledge and experience of Joe and his family is reflected in the quality of the pinot noir. Hope to go back soon.

The Dobbes Family has a charming , small tasting room. The staff are what make the place ,as they are knowledgeable and friendly. Amazing wines that display the Oregon wine character beautifully . (thank you Joe & family !) Worth a vist. My only tiny criticism is that they need more seating.

Stopped by because we had the Grand Assemblage Syrah at a restaurant and it was great. The Thanksgiving Weekend selection featured their southern Oregon Pinot and Fortmiller single vineyard Syrah and both were outstanding. Bought the Pinot and the GA, which was better price for the quality. Our host, Paxton, was fun and enthusiastic and kept us interested. Will visit again when we are in the area.

This is my favorite winery in the Willamette Valley, OR. If you are planning a visit or organizing a wine tasting Dobbes Family Estate should be put on the list. I am a big fan of both Pinot Noir and Syrah and outstanding versions of both varietals are poured in the Dobbes tasting room. There are many wonderful Pinot Noirs in the Willamette Valley but at Dobbes you can sample the diversity of Pinot Noir throughout the valley as Dobbes sources grapes from all the important AVAs. Further, winemaker Joe Dobbes does a really good job making wines that truly highlight the strengths of the grapes so that each of his single-vineyard Pinot Noirs brings something different to the table. Through blending I think he tries for a bit more consistency in his various cuvees but even their the goals are different so that there is something for everyone. My favorite single vineyard (at the moment) is his Symonette made from grapes from the Amity-Eola Hills AVA (my favorite AVA in the valley). Love the clean honest and at times earthy flavors. My favorite cuvee is Patricia’s (named after Joe’s wife) which in some ways might for me be the perfect Pinot Noir. Not to forget the Syrahs Joe Dobbes makes three: Grand Assemblage, Sundown, and Fortmiller. The latter two are single-vineyard Syrahs while the GA is a blend co-fermented with a bit of Viognier. The GA Syrah is likely the best bang-for-your-buck Syrah I have ever had. I am getting a bit long winded but I do want to mention their white wines. Dobbes makes a wonderful variety of white wines that are all dry, crisp, clean, and flavorful. My favorite is their Viognier. Strongly encourage everyone to give this a try. They also make a wonderful Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc (a unique wine for the valley). Another gem is their Sauvignon Blanc but they only made that once and it is almost gone but the last time I was there it was a favorite. For those who do not know Dobbes also produces Wine-by-Joe which is a series of table wines that are quite good. They also produce a restaurant label called Jovino. Do not let the fact that Dobbes is a large winery fool you. The Dobbes end of the business is really isolated from the more mass produced stuff and when you visit their tasting it always has a small winery feel. Go in the middle of the week and you might even catch Patricia Dobbes (Joe’s wife) pouring wine. She is a kick!

My wife grabbed a bottle of "Really Good Wine by Joe" a few weeks ago and we really enjoyed it, so we put this winery on the list of places to visit on our trip to the Willamette Valley. We are glad we did. The tasting room is cozy and friendly. Our server was knowledgeable and personable. They didn't serve any of the "Wines by Joe, but featured their higher end wines, which were all excellent. Joe Dobbes came in to greet us and talk about his operation. This is definately a place to experience if you can.

Joe Dobbes is a talented humble wine maker. With his wife Patricia, one can not help feeling like part of the Dobbes family. They, as well as the staff, are charming and knowledgeable about the wines, food, and Oregon in general. Joe has brought international experience and expertise back to his Oregon roots where he continues to pursue his passion for wine and all things authentically. His Family Estate wine continues to delight the palate and he even gets a little cheeky with his Wine by Joe label. This winery is not to be missed, I can't recommend a visit enough!

I've been to Dobbes/Wine by Joe (same winemaker and tasting room) several times. I'm always impressed by their variety in selection and quality of wine. The Wine by Joe label is in the lower price point range, yet still holds quality in taste. I also love that the tasting room stays open till 6, which is at least an hour later than most of the other local tasting rooms. The Dobbes pinots are great, some bold, some smooth. The Grenache Blanc is a nice suttle white, I prefer it fairly cold. Definitely worth checking out on a wine tasting trip!

Our tour guide through Oregon wine country made this our first stop of many, and it was a great experience. The wine was very good (ask for the '08 Pinot Noir) and the tasting room employees were great (ask for O'Ryan - I think that is his name, and he was the best wine guru i've ever met). If you ask, they may even give you a tour of the area where they make the wine.If you are in the area and looking for a good wine tasting, i highly recommend stopping here (and asking for O'Ryan).
