The historical background of the Hopewell Culture was amazing to see here. We visited in December and unfortunately the state website had no printable trail map, info about parking, etc. The park could use some TLC, for sure, however the boardwalks and stairs were in good repair and allows you to hike the whole site. This incredible ancient history of people in Ohio seems to be a well kept secret, but well worth checking out. If I was going to be in Ohio longer I would have made visits to The Mounds and the other sites.

Disappointed I didn't have more time here. You need half a day or so to hike the trails, the picnic area is very nice and views from the outlook fantastic. Museum is nice. Gift shop could use more merchandise like at Serpent Mound, the garden behind the museum is interesting. You need time to take in this large, large mound group.

I love Ft Ancient! The last time I went there though, in 2013, we had to pay to hike the trails. That's just wrong.

My daughter (who is an adult) and I decided to do a short see Ohio tour. After selecting sites on line and plotting our route we were pleasantly surprise . We enjoyed the museum and the hiking traisl. You could easily spend the day here. The grounds had a picnic area and drinks were available in the gift shop in the museum. My daughter walked the trail at the overlook and enjoyed it. I submitted photos but don't know what happened to them.

I took my kids to the Fort Ancient State Memorial park in Oregonia Ohio. Our visit was filled with knowledge of the early indian tribes that occupied South West Ohio which included the Hopewell, Adena, Iroquios, and Algonquian to name a few. The museum was filled with a ton of artifacts from around the area and stories that made the visit surreal. Then once you completed the museum you could roam around the park and check out the mounds and earth structures. There was a spectacular view of the valley from a north and south face of the hill that we hiked. But be warned, take a comfortable pair of hiking shoes or sneakers if you decide to do the trails and get ready to climb up and down the hill. It was a good day and both my kids and I had a really great time. The kids came away with knowledge of the Native Americans and were really enthralled.

One of the largest Native American earthworks this site provides a nice little museum including a hands-on experiential option for younger children, along with hiking trails and motorways to explore the remarkable earthworks. Worth a detour, plan to spend at least two hours, although the site is well worth a full day. If the weather is nice try a picnic and some hikes.

This site brings home how really "ancient" Ohio history can be. Early peoples in Ohio built unbelievable structures by hand and this site brings them to life for you.

The museum at Fort Ancient is quite good and there are nice hikes you can take around the earthworks.

A great way to see how the natives lived and worshiped. Great for children. Beautiful scenery, especially Spring and Fall.

We used to go here every fall and walk through the beautiful forest paths. We enjoyed learning about the accent burial mounds. This area of Southern Ohio is stunning, with the river valley and the trees. Makes a great day with a picnic.

I visited this museum and archealogical dig more than 30 years ago as a child. I had some time and a desire to revisit the past so I decided to take the trip to the site. Located off I-71 in Warren County, Ohio, the site is easy to get. From Cincinnati it is less than 40 minutes of driving, most of which is interstate. The area is scenic though, so you may wish to take the long way when visiting! The museum portion of the site was very well done. For $6 (Adult) I was able to spend about an hour visiting the museum and taking my time to read all the information and view the majority of the exhibits. There were a handful of interactive/video presentation which were occupied by familes and I chose to skip over those. So you could add another 30 minutes at least to the time you spend (depending on number of children with you!). This was a nice amount of time; enough to provide a thorough overview of the history of the area without being overwhelmed with too many bits of information. The exibits consist of timelines, maps, miniature scaled models, full size recreations and as stated, videos. There was also an activity area which was not being used at the time but looked to be great for school field trips. The museum was pleasantly lit and comfortable on a hot day. The employees were helpful but not overly friendly. The grounds were not quite as well maintained as the museum. The main trails were wide and easily accessible but some of the lengthier trails were overgrown and not as pleasant to walk on. The provided map shows a lot of points of interest but once on the trails I had difficulty find them. I contented myself with just a walk in the woods. This site is great for understanding the Native American culture that fourished here in the Ohio area at one time. The successive waves of people coming here are detailed in the musuem and that really gives a good understanding to the maturation of society and the changing lifestyles of these people.
