The Mazza Museum is found on the campus of The University of Findlay, in Findlay, Ohio. Started as a collection of six pictures, the museum now holds more than 9,000 pictures from illustrators of children's literature. As you wander through the gallery, you are able to learn about types of art used in children's literature, art techniques, the relationship between the story and the art, and so much more. But not only is it a museum, it is a teaching facility where children can experience art and literature on Fun-day Sundays (the first Sunday of the month), and adults can attend specially scheduled weekend lectures, or attend a week-long institute when the authors and illustrators present, or even go on a tour to visit the homes of some of the artists! In addition there is a children's playroom, a children's art room, a library with walls of children's books and videos of the authors and illustrators talking about their work, and a wonderful book/gift store. There is always sometime new to see or learn.

I love this museum. It's well laid out. The staff and docents are super friendly. Easy to enjoy as an adult enthusiast as well as a child. I wish they had Saturday hours!

The University of Findlay has a wonderful, unique treasure in the Mazza Museum. The collection of Children's Book Illustration Art is amazing and beautiful. It is great to see your favorite author's painting or drawing of a favorite book that you shared with your children!

Whether its Sunday Funday (first Sunday of the month) or just an occasional stop in, Mazza has the worlds largest collection of Children's Books and a fun family culture to boot.

If you have kids who like to read—or more importantly, maybe, DON'T like to read so much—this is a fantastic little museum. They have the original artwork for many, many popular children's books, and they display them with the books in which they appeared. It is so much fun to see the illustrations in the books, and then look up on the wall and see the original artwork!! The artwork itself, I feel, stands on its own as art as well as being great illustrations. I couldn't believe the variety of styles and media and subjects. Definitely worth seeing if you're in the area, on the U of F campus.

The Mazza Gallery is rather hard to find, in the center of The University of Findlay. It is a specialty museum, as it has only framed art used to illustrate children's books. There are some very famous artists represented, and some older art. Some is grouped according to theme, such as fairy tale illustrations. They have the books that the illustrations are from, so they can be seen and read. There is a nice gift shop with children's picture books and themed toys, puppets, games, etc. The museum is not particularly big, but the pictures are lovely. If you can get a docent-led tour, they can probably hold your children's attention. Their family fun Sundays are free, and some kids love them.

The art is displayed in such a fashion that you cannot help but be awed by the work and talent behind the art, A highly recommended trip.
