I live in this township and was thrilled when it was announced that the local VFW was behind this memorial. I immediately wrote a check to cover the cost of a memorial brick on the walkway. After six months passed with no brick, I contacted the VFW to see when it would be installed. They had "lost" my check when moving filing cabinets, or so I was told. But they found it and would take care of the matter. Six months later there was still no brick installed and when I called it was to tell them I had cancelled my check and they could forget about the brick. Despite my efforts to participate, the memorial is a beautiful acknowledgement of the service and dedication of our troops and well worth a stop if you are in the area.

For a small township, the VFW POST 9340 and citizens of Columbia Station has created a beautiful Memorial honoring the five branches of service of the United States Military. The memorial is very visible on the right in the Columbia Park just west of Columbia West River Road and State Highway Route 82 west of Strongsville, Ohio. There is ample parking and a minute or so walk to the Memorial. It only takes about a half hour minimum to read the tributes and pay your respect to those who gave it all. It immortalizes those Columbia residents that paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Beautiful images of World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, and our past and Current Global Conflicts are etched in solid black granite to remind us all that "FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE." http://vfwpost9340.com/index.htm. Four Keyes Restaurant is just a little farther west.
