At the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center the question isn’t what to do...

Loved it. We've visited the trails here several times through the years. This is probably the best cross country skiing in Stowe. The Trappe Family Lodge hotel and restaurant are also excellent. If you stay in the hotel you can ski in-out to the xcountry trails.

I rented skis and received instructions on how to use them without being killed in the process. :-) Had a great time on the trails.

The lodge is named after the Trapp family who moved to Vermont from Austria. I'm sure there's a lot of history behind it. I went with my uncle and two cousins. We didn't go outside but from what I saw on the exterior, it was very fancy. Since it was off season (July) it was almost empty save a few. We took the short sky thingy over to the lodge, but we were unable to take one up the slope because it had already closed for the day. Amazing views and I wish we can go back soon!

To have a destination when cross country skiing is what I love about this place. Not only is the grooming, signage and staff impeccable, but the cabin is a great destination. If you do this as enjoyment and not necessarily as your daily work out, it is nice to know you can get a hot beverage, a cup of soup or a sandwich at some point. No matter how many cars are in the lot, it never feels crowded. The trail system is extensive! Over the many years that I have visited, I have yet to be disappointed. When I used to rent the equipment, the staff was knowledgable and extremely helpful. A few years ago I purchased my own equipment so only need the trail pass. Very friendly people throughout this resort - staff and customers!

The title says it all. The staff were great and assisted us in selecting a trail that was good for us given the short time we had. I observed other guests who were renting gear and the staff appeared knowledge and helpful. The trails are very well marked and you can tell are maintained well. We were guests at the lodge so our passes were included with our stay. $25 per person would have been more than we wanted to pay for an hour snowshoeing but, I could see making an entire day out of it. There is a cabin you can xc ski or snowshoe to to have lunch. Instead, we did a loop that took us past the Chapel which was beautiful and very cool.

The staff is incredibly helpful, friendly and knowledgeable! The lodge is stunning and the snowshoeing was phenomenal.

The staff here is amazing! They are willing to go wait out of their way to make your trip special. Even as far as holding a snowshoe tour just for you, even though it was cancelled due to lack of popularity.

Fresh snow made the conditions unbeatable. There are miles of trails - groomed and well-marked for skiiers of all levels. We skiied in the morning and then snowshoed up to the cabin in the afternoon. It was a challenging climb, but the hot soup and fresh bread at the cabin made it worth while. Stay on the trails - going even a few inches off can land you in a really deep hole... Be sure to go into the main Trappe Family Lodge a short walk from the ski center. Lovely place.

It had been a few years since my wife and I had been XC skiing so I just wanted a nice gentle loop. We were staying at the Trapp Family Lodge and XC ski passes are complimentary.....a nice surprise! We brought our own gear and walked over in the early afternoon after a great fresh powder dump the day before.I got a trail map and went looking for the aforementioned beginners loop. I saw that Sugar Rod and the Telemark Trail were all indicated in green....beginners trails....right?I pointed out our intended route to a woman at the desk and she assured me that yes, in fact, ours would be a beginners loop.Sugar Road was a beautiful flat walk in the woods...lovely. The Telemark Trail was a reasonably steep uphill walk and while I worried that the way back down may be a challenge, I depended upon that person at the lodge and trudged upwards. The way back down would be a gentle winding descent....I hoped. At the top of the trail, I had a look at the downhill side. The trail marker itself had a black diamond on it.....not good.I am a fairly strong skier and have XC skis with metal edges. My wife's skis are pure classic XC skis without metal edges. That trail should NOT be indicated as a beginner trail. The backside of the Telemark trail is narrow, twisty and steep. I skied it and had fun but my wife crashed and ended up walking down.If the outdoor center considers the backside of Telemark to be a green slope, beginners, I think they need to get real. You have got to make your customers aware of what lies ahead. A true beginners experience would be out Sugar Road and back on Sugar Road to Foxtrack.

My family and I have been coming to Stowe for years to downhill ski, and on this trip we decided to try cross country (and back country) skiing for the first time. Someone recommended that we speak to Drew at the Trapp Family Lodge, and I'm really glad we did. He sat there for at least a half hour and fit my daughters into their boots, and patiently answered all of our questions, and generally steered us in the right direction with regard to equipment, and trails to try. By the end of the day I had decided that cross country skiing was something I would continue to do in the future, and I got my first small taste of back country skiing in the trees and deep powder. Thanks Drew.

i did say x-country ski heaven...there were lots of skiers and lots of trail options. However, we were snowshoeing. A great deal less trail options for snowshoers. We snowshoed up to the chapel and then made our way to the cabin for soup. We got off track from the chapel as the map is not really accurate, so the journey was a little longer than expected...about 2 hours to the cabin. Then coming down we decided to try the new trail, black crown markings, this was like coming straight off the mountain, pretty steep, but manageable. Would like the map to represent the snowshoe trails better...descriptions and distance and accuracy in the map would have helped. All that said, this is a beautiful place to envy a winters day...Xcountry skiing or snowshoeing. Will go again next time we are in town.

Great skiing, great trails! The skiing lodge was warm with a great European feel. There is a lot to do at the Trapp Family Lodge.

What a wonderful place, the food was excellent; the suite was comfortable, roomy & very clean;and the sleigh ride was just perfect. Of course, we were with a tour group for individual families it may me a little pricey. Their were no skier in our group so I can't comment but there were plenty of slopes around,as well as cross country skiing.

We spent the day here xc skiing and it was lovely. The trails were challenging but doable even for novice skiers, and the area was stunning. They do an excellent job grooming. That said, $100 for ski passes and rentals for 2 people and 1 day of skiing seems high to me, but we did really enjoy our experience.

Was a little disappointed, thought we would see more, but was ok. Got to talk to the granddaughter which was pretty cool. She was the tour guide.
