As you walk up to the museum you are welcomed by your own personal, knowledgeable tour guide. As you walk through the museum your quickly discover that the items on display depict more than the history of Lake Placid; it is also a historical tour of America in general. There are also some items on display that are not historical; but very interesting and that is the miniature display. You soon discover that Lake placid has a number of folks who are experts in creating miniature displays. There is also a person on staff who builds some of these displays and is a treasure chest of information on the making of miniatures. Visiting this museum is an enjoyable way to spend an hour or 2 taking a break from viewing the many wonderful murals the town has.

Some friends and I enjoyed an afternoon at the Lake Placid Museum. There was an elderly gent working there the day of our visit and he was a fountain of knowledge.. He had some sort of anecdotal comment or story about nearly every artifact and display item. He definitely made our visit very interesting. The Museum runs on donations so be sure to bring along some green things when you stop by. Just a few will help to ensure the Museum remains a viable part of our town for years to come.

We were invited in by the guide, Jerry, who grew up in the area and knew the stories behind the pictures. His knowledge of the town and sense of humor was the highlight of our visit. Museum is filled with all kinds of items of Americana, both Lake Placid-specific and USA in general. There's even an old switchboard. Stop in and visit. You'll be glad you did.
