How wonderful that a piece of Southern Illinois history is still standing. It is a shame, however, that more has not been done to restore this place, and protect it from further deterioration.

could use some more TLC and get it back to where you can take tours in it again would be nice

The Bank of Illinois, was constructed in 1839-41 to house the offices Tof the Bank of Illinois at Shawneetown. It later housed numerous other financial institutions before it was closed in the 1930s. This fine example of Greek Revival architecture survives as the Shawneetown Bank State Historic Site.
