We usually takes the kids to visit the animals and garden once a week in warmer weather. Even in the colder months they love to see all the animals. It brings many smiles and teaching moments for our grand kids!

We were in the area visiting family and decided to check out Wagner a Farm, figuring if the kids (3 & 6) weren't impressed we would just move on to someplace else since there was no admission fee. We ended up staying longer than we planned and the kids had fun looking at the animals and especially in the interactive area where they milked a pretend cow and collected and candled eggs. I like that they learned something while having fun! We also enjoyed a treat from the soda fountain.

I'm not a huge fan of going to Wagner's Farm just to experience the working farm because there is not a ton to do. However, they have a farmer's market on Saturdays that makes the trip worthwhile. We always get our fruit from R&B Miller Farms, Roger who runs it is the nicest and most knowledgeable guy in the world. We also get lots of vegetables there, I can't remember the name of the place, but it's the one where everybody wears green.

Timing is important. You might want to come on a Saturday morning to combine your farm visit with the farmers' market (2014 dates: June 21 – Oct. 11, 8:00 am – 12:00 noon), or to come on the first June weekends to patronize the soda fountain. The good news is that a) starting June 16, the soda fountain will be open daily -- Mon.- Sat. 11 am – 5 pm; Sun. 11 am – 3 pm -- and b) they feature Homer's ice cream. 'nuff said.Free parking is available on the east side of Wagner Road. Free admission. You can pick up a free map at the Heritage Center and then wander the grounds at your own speed. There is so much to see. My favorite stops are the shaded picnic benches; the HUGE cows (they don't seem so big when viewed while driving by); and the old-time grocery store with its old-time prices (chickpeas, 8 cents a pound; canned applesauce, 2 cans for 25 cents) and vintage National cash register.A great family destination....................
