Have you ever seen a native Illinois grassland? Lots of grass, right? Well, there is more. A LOT more. The flowers, insects, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, turtles, frogs, deer...a treasure for the eyes! Take a trip to this lovely area, ensuring you bring your camera and binoculars, and simply walk around the 3000+ acres that have been (or are being) restored to native Illinois grasslands. I have been there twice - once in September and once in mid-late June. June was my favorite for the flowers, though there is a succession of flowering plants throughout the growing season. If more information is desired, simply query Nachusa Grasslands and select either the Nature.org or Friends of Nachusa Grasslands.
