Seen better museums, but it's OK. Guards at entrance were pretty rude to my 81 year old parents. I guess it's easy to be sarcastic to your elders especially when you have a gun.

Arrived at the gate on our motorcycle only to be told we would have a 45 minute wait in the Sun while they ran a background check! With all that unsecured desert out there, why did they put the museum inside a secured area. I'm a US Army vet, but that didn't matter.

The museum is a real trip through the past of the Proving Grounds. The do tours, but you must sign up the morning they are announced.

The heritage Museum at the Proving Ground gives you a detailed look at the wide varied of activity that has taken place on that facility. The tour (given 5 times a year) shows you more of the behind the scenes activity, but the static displays and video presentations are quite interesting. The facilities testing and training from WW II forward to the present is displayed. They test weapons, clothing, and equipment for the US Army. The drive to the site is well worth the trip.

What an awesome military museum. It is packed full of interesting information and displays spanning from WW1 to present day. This is one of those places that you just need to experience for yourself.

This is a tour put on by the Yuma tourism out of the Quartermaster Depot. This is only the second year they have put this tour on and they run 5 tours and they sell out usually in one day.You are bussed out to YPG and the tour takes you behind the gates were the general public can not got. They take you to the control room that oversees the whole base. Next they take you to see the heavy equipment and get a up close look at the tanks and other pieces of equipment. You next go to the Heritage Center which has wonderful static displays. After the center you are taken to the Cactus Cafe for a great buffet lunch. This is a great tour, but book early.

We stopped in on a road trip through Arizona and took lots of pictures and enjoyed the static display of tanks and guns. There is lots to see and history to read about. It's an army facility and one of the largest military installations, one of the testing grounds for munitions and artillery. It is a good way from Yuma about an hour drive north, perfect for a tourist stop on your way out of Yuma going toward Phoenix or Tucson.

We were staying at a hotel off of 16th St and I-8, so we were able to follow 16th St (which is actually SR 95) almost the whole way to YPG. It's actually off of Imperial Dam Rd, and you have to pass the first YPG entrance to get to the main post entrance for the Heritage Museum. Pay attention to the little signs pointing to different military locations in the desert when you're driving down Imperial Dam Rd because they will make much more sense after you visit the museum. Each room in the museum has different military information and exhibits. The information sheets they have posted on the walls and exhibits have a lot of interesting information about YPG, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, the Holocaust, and all sorts of technology used in military over the years. They have old uniforms, furniture, supplies, and video clips in some of the rooms, and I really learned a lot by reading the info sheets. Apparently, YPG only has about 80 permanent military personnel, and the rest of the over 1000+ employees are contractors or civilians. It was so worth the visit, and, it doesn't matter what time of the year you visit because the museum itself is air-conditioned. The museum is free, and they have a donation box at the end to help continue to expand the museum.

For its mere size you really cant expect much from the outside looking in, however once inside and the you look around there is plenty to see. A lot of history and significant facts about how things became the way they are today. I was a good trip, however I would recommend going during the cool months.

We were visiting as guests of our son, who works there, otherwise we would never have known about this museum. The exhibits were good, but what topped it off was the helpful information provided by our guide. For example, the list of technologies that were developed at the Yuma Proving Grounds was far more extensive than we had supposed. GPS navigation, for example, now fitted as standard in many new cars today.YPG is a good example of government money well spent.

This museum is on Main Post at Yuma Proving Ground, so you will have to go through the security check at the gate. Have proof of insurance and registration for the car, and your driver's license/i.d. and you won't have a problem. The guard will tell you where to go. This museum is well worth the trip and hassle, small amount that there is. It is in what used to be the Post Commander's HQ when that was still on Post. There are several rooms, including the main office, which are used for displays. I loved the Post Commander's office; it has been kept as it was in the 50's with a few ingenious tricks- do not miss the map display! If you have any interest in any of the wars the United States has been in, you will love this place! There are one or two restaurants on Post- ask the guard at the gate about them. There is also a good 'convenience' store right next to the gate. Just keep in mind that this is an active Army base.
