We saw antelope and beautiful saguaro cactus. The roads were so smooth and well maintained. No way could you get lost.

If you don't have much time this is a nice quick trip to get close to the red rock's. Not many scenic view stops as it travels through a residential area.

The view ranks with the Cook Inlet in Alaska. Fortunately, most of the drive is at low speeds so that your eyes can savor its beauty. There are some pull outs, but hiking the many excellent trails is the best way to appreciate your surroundings.

Travelled into Sedona this way twice and it never fails to amaze. Plenty to see and good view points especially at the Ranger Station.

The drive through this portion of Arizona is so beautiful it is almost impossible to describe. those of us who think of Arizona as flat bleak desert need to take this road and their minds will be forever changed.

Great drive and scenic. Best stop is Slide Rock and better than Oak Creek Vista. Great rock views along the drive

Red rocks everywhere, smooth road with picturesque stop offs for hikes and photos, and if you can cruise us 89A (Oak Creek Canyon) Do so!!

The 7.5 mile drive along Red Rock Scenic Byway offers unbeatable views. It is Arizona's First All-American Road. Not to be missed!

On a recent visit to the Sedona area, we stayed at a hotel in the Village of Oak Creek which is a bit less expensive than the hotels in Sedona proper. The best part of staying in Oak Creek is the winding drive down SR179, with spectacular red rock formations on every side. The many traffic circles or roundabouts cause one to slow down every so often, allowing one to better appreciate the scenery in every direction. The eponymous Bell Rock, as well as the nearby Courthouse Rock, are two notable formations which are surrounded by easy and pleasant hiking trails suitable for any age. If you are visiting this area don't miss the Chapel of the Holy Cross, which is built into the hillside and overlooks the valley. It's worth an hour or so of your time. Sedona is the perfect city for hiking, so bring your boots, our camera, and your water bottle and get out there and enjoy it!

Breathtaking! And I mean it really takes your breath away. My son and I were exclaiming OMG all the way to the center of Sedona!

Absolutely beautiful scenery on SR 179 from the Phoenix direction into Sedona. Stunning rock formations await you around every corner of this route! There are several areas to pull off for viewing purposes and you will no doubt want to do so. The day was gorgeous and once we got to Sedona we parked in one of the lots where you pay $5 to display a parking pass in your car window to park. From there, it was just a short distance to a Bell Rock trail which we walked to get closer to these beautiful rock formations.

we drove this during a snow storm and then later afterwards. Very slippery during the snow but very pretty

The Red Rocks in Sedona are beautiful, at any time of day. Every time we come here we are just amazed at the beauty of these rocks. At the same time, we notice all the building going on in front of these rocks and we wonder if Sedona has any kind of zoning department.

Have plenty of time because the views are spendid. There are helpful areas to pull over while driving because the Red Rocks demand your complete attention. Be sure to make the drive at different times of the day and in varying weather conditions - there is always something new to see and to appreciate.
