Scenery is amazing during day and night. If on main road after dark one can see the lights on cross... which is just beautiful. Raises the heart rate going up the stairs yet very worth it.

Beautiful views, sacred grounds, quaint chapel, massive cross and glorious Virgin Mary! This is a must see. There is a path to follow to get to the grotto and back down. There are is the Stations of the Cross path. There are sacred objects in the base of the cross and a place to sit by the Virgin Mary. The chapel is beautiful with free rosaries and a place for donations and candles to light for your loved ones and prayers. There is just a peace there that is unlike any other place in the county. You don't have to be religious to go there, just partake in the Christian atmosphere. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the views. There is a bathroom (clean) there, so no worries. Great for solo excursions, family and pairs. Small children might be inappropriate only because there is absolutely nothing for them to do there and they will get bored and cry thus disturbing others. Overall, this place is great and a must-see.

I was driving along and saw the cross. I went up close and took some pictures. The reason for the lower review was that I hard a hard time finding the entrance and never did.

You can see for miles from this shrine. It is very serene and peaceful! If you have time you can walk the stations of the cross. You don't have to be catholic to enjoy this little gem!

I'm not Catholic but I really found this amazing. You see it from the highway below and it call out for you to see what it is. Nestled up on the hill it provides amazing views of the valley below. After the fire destroyed most of the place and the surrounding growth it is amazing how much has been done to make it so beautiful. It is a truly hidden gem to all of Arizona. No fee to visit and pay your respects. However there are steep steps or road to climb to get up there but once at the top you are very rewarded... A MUST SEE !!!

The Shrine is a must see. Set up in the mountains, overlooking the valley. We only saw the cross in the mountain as we drove down the highway and then back tracked to see what it was about. We were glad we did. The virtual tour on their web page is only a teaser to the real experience.

I am not Catholic but I really enjoyed this little place. I am Christian, however, so I enjoyed the little walk. I am not sure if it's still there after the fire. The angel statues are beautiful.

This is very beautiful, especially at night as it stands high on a hill it's all lit up. There is a path to walk to each station of the cross. The little chapel that was burned down from the fire in 2011 has been rebuilt, services are still held there. It's worth the drive and the climb to see it. Hereford is a lovely area surrounded by gorgeous mountains.

I like to take people up here because it's beautiful and it gives you a nice view out over the valley. The church was damaged in a fire in 2011, but has since been restored. Go in and take a peek, but be quiet and respectful because there could be people in there worshiping. The church is beautiful and it's a working church that holds mass. Follow the story of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection to the top, and stop and take it all in. Even if religion is not your thing, this is still a nice place to come to. If you don't want to make the climb or can't, you can drive all the way up to the church in order to see it.

We almost deleted this from our trip based on the information on the internet that the Chapel had burned in the Monument FIre in 2011. After some more digging we found that it has been rebuilt and was open again. The chapel is beautiful inside. There was some information about what burned in the fire. We were the only ones there at the time of our visit. It was very peaceful and the view of the surrounding area was breathtaking. It's worth stopping by if you are in the area.

You can see the whole valley from there. Inside the chapel you can light a candle for someone that needs help.

When you drive south on StateRoad 92 you will see this shrine on the eastern slope of Thompson Peak in the Huachuca Mountains. The giant statue of the Virgin Mary is well-lighted. I live in the area and there are times I want to come here, climb the stairs and then walk up to the highest bench to look over the scenic valley. It's a great place to watch the fullmoon or sun to rise. The owners of this place restored this shrine to its pre-fire look and the work is amazing. Now mind you, I'm not a religious person at all, but there is something about this place that pulls you in. Go inside the chapel to reflect on life, count your blessings, and be grateful you have a place for solitude.Mexicans come here by the busload to visit; this place is well-known to northern Sonorans.

There are twelve stations of the cross to walk to if you choose to, the mountain views are beautiful. The little chapel was rebuilt after the 2011 fire and is lovely, the statue of the Virgin is beautiful. It's a hike to the top. At night it's all lit up. It is absolutely gorgeous!
