A great museum on Dawson Street that houses the history of Thomasville and Thomas County. Great collection of memerobelia, buildings, a bowling alley. It makes one proud of their heritage!

I always like local museums to get some info about the place and area I visit. Thomas county museum is a relatively small museum that can give you a sense of the local history. I would have given it five stars if the tour guide guy wouldn't talk too much. It took one hour and a half, and when we left, he was still talking. He was funny at least :)

Wonderful personal tour of historic homes and the museum. Great way to understand why Thomasville was the resort destination at the turn of the century and who used to visit there.

Inexpensive and lots to see. Several houses to tour and even a private bowling alley. There is a great video giving brief history of the area.

We were thinking we would go for a quick tour....little did we know it would provide such detail. Our tour guide was very interesting and provided such detail. There are so many places to see at the museum. It is well worth the admission fee.

The 10-minute movie was interesting giving the history of Thomasville and the local area. The guided tour of the outer buildings provided additional info about the history of the area and some of the seasonal/local families. Seeing the oldest bowling alley in the country and getting to roll a ball down the lane was a special treat. The pieces in the museum itself were interesting, but not as numerous as we've seen in most museums. Most items were identified, but larger print/fonts would make it easier and quicker to read, especially since most visitors are probably senior citizens. The price was right at $5 per person. It was a good value for the hour and a half (or longer, if you want) of time spent there.

Short video was good; guided tour of the entire property was excellent; staff courteous and knowledgeable. I walked seven blocks from downtown Thomasville to/from the museum and saw many lovely antebellum homes enroute.

you'll regret it if you don't spend some time during your life in thomasville...

The day I visited the museum my mother and I were the only guests and, so, had a private tour led by the former director. We kept thinking the tour would end soon, but it just kept going! We spent about 2 hours touring the musuem. There were a few rooms decorated in period style in which the guide gave the history of the home. There was a room with (I think) a temporary quilt exhibit which was interesting. In this room we got a history of the region. Outside of the main building there is a frontier style plank home which shows how settlers first lived in the area. There is also an indoor bowling alley, the likes of which I've never seen. It was an interesting tour, but I would have liked some time to roam alone. There were quite a few exhibits in the building that we didn't get to see under the tutelage of the guide.

This inconspicuous museum consists of five buildings...one of which includes the oldest bowling alley in the South, perhaps the States. The museum is best visited via tour. Museum curator Thomas Hill works Fridays and Saturdays and relays bits and pieces of Thomasville's unique and fascinating history. The $5 tour fee is a bargin -- I would have paid twice that amount in retrospect. Additionally, the museum is but a stone's throw away from the myterious Lapham-Patterson house, which is also open for tours again. Bottom line, this tour should be a requisite part of any itinerary to a Thomasville trip!
