Valerie and Freddie are gracious home tour hosts. They explained the history, architecture, and antique furrnishings of this beautiful antebellum mansion. Bellevue is a "must see" when visiting western Georgia.

Mrs. Valerie and Mr. Freddie are awesome people! They help made my mother Retirement/ Birthday dinner a bang. Me and my family has never been in a Mansion and we felt very special my mother enjoyed herself and her friends. My son and I learned so much about the history of the Bellevue Mansion and it is a awesome place to use for a event.

I recommend this home tour for a very enjoyable and historical view of early life in LaGrange. Our host was most hospitable and enlightened us with a delightful tour. The home is sometimes closed for special events and when I called he offered us an afternoon tour. Since this is common on the weekend I'd advice you call ahead. Don't miss this opportunity along with the Hill and Dale tour.

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised on a recent visit to Bellevue, the former home of Sen Benjamin Harvey Hill.Valerie and Freddie Cardwell, the caretakers, were so informative and took great pride in showing us this Greek Revival home built in the 1850's. They even took part of their lunch hour to point out aspects of life in the 19th century and shared stories about the previous residents. They also shared the history as it relates to the Civil War and that it was used as a convalescent hospital for Confederate soldiers. Valerie explained that the home is cared for by the LaGrange Women's Club and is also used for weddings, showers, etc. It was a a most enjoyable outing for us.

Bellevue is well worth a visit if you are in LaGrange. An historical mansion restored by the local Calloway Foundation and owned by a local charitable trust it gives you a real taste of The South. What really brings the house to life are the two charming mangers, Valerie and Freddie. They have a wealth of knowledge on the house and the area which they get across very well. Like all the southern people we met they are charming, polite and keen to talk. We had a brilliant trip around the house and made sense of a lot of the local history. This is a lovely house run by two fascinating people.

We toured this amazing home this past Saturday. We actually drove to LaGrange to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Art Museum and decided to take a little side trip to see Bellevue. Pulling up Ben Hill Rd. Bellevue comes into sight and you immediately know this is going to be special. We arrived (as usual) without cash (only $5 each) and the very pleasant caretakers said "don't worry, we'll give you a tour and you can come back later with the money", not many places have that kind of customer service anymore. My husband and I spent the next hour in the company of the two caretakers, Freddie and his wife, both VERY knowledgeable and shared many anecdotal details with us about this beautiful antebellum home. They also shared a great place for lunch A slice of Lemon and advised us to go to another beautiful old estate called Hills and Dales. Our day was totally changed after touring Bellevue and Hills and Dales and we are grateful for a brief glimpse into days gone by. If you love old homes with beautiful character go see these two wonderful places.

If you love visiting restored antebellum homes this is for you. The massive magnolias before the impressive columned porch took my breath away as we drove up to the house. I could almost see a vision of Scarlett coming out to great us. Luckily the house has been restored by the Callaway Foundation. Unfortunately, the house doesn't have it it's original furniture like Hills& Dales, but antique furniture has been donated. Another treasure of the house is its tour guides who live in the house. They are both retired LaGrange natives and historians about the civil war period. They made us feel the love and pride of the house they are privileged to inhabit. As we walked through the house we learned about the founding families who had lived there and their involvement prior, during and after the war. The most impressive aspect was the carved wood treatments above the entry ways. The couple gave us their full attention and answered our questions. They were very knowledgeable and personable making us feel like we were just their company in their home. It was a pleasant afternoon spent with "friends" as we walked away under the magnolia canopy while they waved goodbye to us on the columned front porch. If you are visiting LaGrange for touring historical houses this is a must do and only cost $5. We also went and had homemade milkshakes at the new pharmacy that looks like an old drugstore inside. Ask about the antique wood used to make the bar. We enjoyed our shakes while we walked the sidewalks looking at the other historic homes in the neighborhood.

Thoroughly enjoyed this little nugget of history. It was surprising to learn how this beautiful historic mansion survived the Civil War. The docents are lovely and very knowledgeable about the home and its tales. My 11 year old even enjoyed our visit. Thank you for a memorable afternoon!

Belleview is a beautiful mansion tucked away on a quiet street. Gina and I thoroughly enjoyed our history tour and conversation with Bellevue's wonderful caretakers. They were very knowledgeable about the house and local history. The mansion is in great shape and their collection of period antiques continues to grow. A nice surprise and a must visit site for history buffs when you are in the neighborhood.

Bellevue is one of the most authentic houses of its type in the south. Definitely worth a visit and tour which is included in the nominal admission price.

We have visited Bellevue several times, and each time have felt true Southren hospitality ! The staff have done a amazing job on this beautiful Antebellum home. Both of my daughters were invited here for an award luncheon and were treated like family. We so enjoyed looking at the rooms and how period everything was to this era in which Bellevue was built . Definitely a trip back in time . Will visit again very soon.

We enjoyed touring the Bellvue. The history behing the home was very interesting. We had a wonderful gentleman guide us and he was very knowledgable about the house and the family. This is an inexpensive tour. $5.00 and well worth that and more. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

This is an old antebellum with period and original pieces. It is easy to do a self guided tour. They had volunteers who could answer your questions. The home is available for weddings and special occasions. We thought it was worth our visit.
