My husband & I went to Hartwell/Lake Hartwell, Ga. for an overnight stay. No rooms in the three motels available because of Jet-ski Competition on Lake Hartwell. Had to drive to Elbertson, Ga. Found a Days Inn with a room available. The non-smoking room was nice (for a one night stay) but that was about it. This motel/inn is NOT in a good local. Lots of noise from street traffic and train whistle blowing all during the night. We both had a very uneasy feeling all night and did not sleep well. If there are rooms available at the Best Western in Hartwell, that is where we will stay next time there.

Love the lake, not crowed like Lanier. Had fun and felt safe pulling the grand kids on the tube. Gum Branch ramp is great. Hart State park isn't what it used to be for camping but day use is good. Narrow ramp at Hart state park.

The water was clean & beautiful! The picnic areas were well maintained. The bathrooms were clean. I will definitely be back to spend some time out by the lake!

Living close to Hartwell, we visit the Dam frequently to walk our dogs on the path along the banks of Lake Hartwell. The lake is absolutely beautiful and a great place to go anytime of the year. Every year, the weekend before Mother's Day, the annual Lake Hartwell Dam Run 5K, 10K, and 1-mile Fun Run takes place across the Savannah River Bridge, briefly crossing into South Carolina, and returns across the Dam. It is one of the most scenic races in Georgia as more than half of the route runs along Lake Hartwell. They give out great tee shirts too! My daughter and I started our "Mother's Day" tradition of participating in this race every year four years ago.The race is the only time the Army Corp of Engineers opens the Dam for people to walk across. It's been nicknamed "The Best DAM RUN Anywhere!"

This lake is huge. It seems to just stretch for miles and miles. We went with our grandparents and it was awesome. We happened to get there as they were sounding the alarm to let everyone know they were about to release water. Its a beautiful peaceful place.

Lake continues to be full of water. A brisk walk along the dam from the Corp offices on a sunny afternoon is just great. Then a snack at the New King Wok -Chinese take out restaurant near the wal-mart in Hartwell made a good afternoon in Hartwell Ga.

The drought is over and Lake Hartwell is beautiful. The Corps of Engineers has several very nice campgrounds and fishing is great. Lake Hartwell is enjoyable year round.

I have been going to Lake Hartwell every weekend for the last 10 years. Every kind of lake activity is available in many locations. with 960 miles of shorelines there is new stuff to see all of the time. Sailboats, pontoons, canoes , paddle boats , bass boats , speed boats are just a few of the boats that are out on this huge lake. The fishing is great and plentiful. Beaches and campgrounds are located all around the lake. Plenty of public access and several cities located on the shores. Enjoy the lake

So many hours can be spent on this lake with boating, skiing, tubing, sailing, or just floating on a swim raft. Whether you have a canoe or a 24 ft. pontoon this is the lake to be in the southeast united states. With nearly 58,000 acres of water and almost 1000 miles of shoreline there are so many places to explore. There are islands to beach your boat or tent camp and there are several restaurants on the lake that you can dock your boat and walk to eat dinner. There are 5 marinas that we are aware of that you can fill up with gas or buy an ice cream cone if you like. It is a vacationers paradise and satisfies everyone in the family. We spend a great deal of time boating and sunning on the water, and when it gets too hot, just take a dip in the crystal clear water. With the water levels now above full pool due to excessive rain, the shoreline is even more beautiful. Lots of birds to observe as well as deer. There are even a few islands that hold old cemeteries to explore. Lots to do on Lake Hartwell!

The heavy spring rains have brought Lake Hartwell to full pool for the first time in many years. The lake is more than ready for a busy boating scene. Be sure to check with the Hart County Chamber. Of Commerce for the many weekend activities planned. Fishing has been so good that the crazy fishermen have been seen in full rain gear out in their bass boats. Hartwell is a beautiful lake with many recreational opportunities including the many campgrounds operated by the Corps of Engineers. Northeast Georgia is scenic and hospitable. History abounds.

When I was around 19 we started going every fourth of july and the lake would be filled with happy people and the smell of great barbecues. I loved to wade in the water and the exicitment it brung. I don't hardly go there like I use to for the fourth, but I hope to go back this year!

There is a very nice paved walking part along the top of the dam. You get a view of the lake and the dam. Great parking. Free parking.

I have been to all of the large lakes in Georgia and Lake Hartwell is my favorite. It is scenic, easily accessed with clear water and limited crowds, particularly compared to the insanity that occurs on the lakes closer to Atlanta. The swimming season goes from April through October. You can always find a spot in a secluded cove along the hundreds of miles of shoreline. It is also only a short drive to the mountains. The only downside is that the lake level can drop during an extended drought.
