If you come in the main gate (say, off a cruise ship) you'll enter the city here. This is the main square of Kotor (also I think the front porch of Old Town) where you'll find many cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as a selection of shops where you can easily spend some time (and money).

If you enter Kotor through the main town gate, this is the first and largest square you come to. Also known as the square of the October revolution, it gets its name from the nearby Venetian arsenal. You pass a couple of cannons as you enter the main gate. The square is surrounded on all sides by magnificent 17th and 18th Century palaces. At one end is the Hotel Cattaro which was once a theatre and town hall. Beside this is the Rector's Palace from the 17th C. Opposite stands the Clock Tower built in 1602. It leans slightly due to an earthquake. At its base is a small pyramid, called the Pyramid of Shame. This was the site of punishments and torture during the middle ages. Today the square is full of pleasant cafés and there's a bank and tourist information just as you enter.

Nice square to sip a drink and relax especially in early mornings surrounded by stone houses (merely hotels nowadays). Take a second and daily newspapers and sit in front of hotel Vardar.

Fun to walk around and explore the shops. It is pretty small & very safe. There are several cafes and a few souvinier shops The outdoor seating is great to relax and take in the beauty and people watch.

We came across this square when we were seeking to leave the old town having entered through the North Gate earlier. What a great place. Not too big and with beautiful buildings surrounding it, including the clock tower, the area is a wash with cafes, bars and restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating to watch the world go by. I could have sat for hours admiring the architecture but alas the cruise ship wouldn't wait. If you can spend a bit of time to look round. We had far too little and I felt that we missed a bit of the feel of the old town, even though it was full of tourists. It's also fairly inexpensive. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the cost.

Very nice square in old Kotor. You have to stop for a coffer or icecream over there and just watch the people passing ans selling things. You can feel a little bit of their day to day living. The restaurants or cafes are not very expensive.

Favorite spot to hang out, after and before classes on the Faculty. Everything you need is in this place, so hurry up and check it out.

Like any other piazza, this one has loads of cafes and restaurants strewn about, and a church on one side. It's the main piazza of the town, so it's often busy during the day when all the tour group buses and cruise ships dock. To really enjoy it, come in the afternoon, after 5 p.m., when the crowds have subsided (most buses leave around 4), but there is still plenty of people for people watching.

If you can make it to Kotor outside of the summer tourist season, the square is a fantastic place to sip coffee, while away the hours and watch the world go by.

This is the first contact you have with Kotor if you arrive by cruise. Nice Piazza with a lot of restaurants, cafes and shops, where you can rest and buy some souvenirs.
