A huge Moor fortress dating from the 8th century used to maintain troops to control this territory. Access is unrestricted and unsupervised. The castle is situated on top of a solitary hill with amazing views > 10 km in every direction. The interior of the castle is mostly in ruin - but we very much enjoyed walking the imposing castle grounds and imagining what once was.

The remains of this castle are unsupervised, and we were the only ones there for an hour. 'Health and Safety' have not been allowed to spoil the enjoyment of this castle and for sheer size and situation you should visit. There are extensive views for miles.

We couldn't find this on the map so just headed for Gormaz - we shouldn't have worried as you can't miss it. It's well worth the detour though as it's a very imposing castle on top of the hill with some fabulous views.

We could see the castle from far away as we drove toward it...just impressive. Once there, it was great walking around and taking photos of the castle and the landscape beyond. Can't miss this if you're in Soria!

The castle sits on top of its own hill which it encirles. It offers amazing & I don't exagerate they are truely amazing views. By the river below is a very old bridge over the Duero and in the village is an acient church with wonderful wall piantings.

You can see Gormaz from a long way away, and it looks just stunning as you approach, covering the full length of the mountain top. It's free to get in, some basic signage inside, but it is essentially a ruin, open to the elements. And it is huge. The end with the more built up area is great fun, it's one of those castles you can actually get up onto the ramparts and walk along on one side (I love castles which just trust people to be careful instead of forcing them to), and an interesting escape door allowing you to suddenly step outside of the walls. The whole thing has 24 towers around the walls, and from one end you can't see the other. The views were just amazing, it is an ideal site for a castle! With the river Duero below and the mountains beyond, 360 in all directions. The best, and most famous, bit is the double moorish style door, beautiful and curious. We were very glad we made the effort to come back here after initially driving past and being stunned from a distance, highly recommendable.

Easy to find, breath taking views, and the best no fee to see it! I am hopeful in the future they add english translations to their description plaques. We took pictures and translated the spanish when we got home. Definitely a must see if you are in the area

This enormous castle can be seen from far away. It is recommended to visit it at ease and savour the wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Do not forget to visit the little church that you pas at your right hand driving up to the castle, it has some very interesting frescoes.
