visited Lagos last oct and had the chance to revisit gems from our last holiday . i am not one to review an establishment a second time but after reading a review by Grace Baird on The Star i feel compelled to do so. when we arrived at the Star on our first day back Rick ( the owner ) was sitting at the bar having a bowl of soup and a sandwich. stopping to greet us both warmly and making us feel like old friends he continued with his lunch. all he was short of doing was cutting his sandwich in half, calling for another spoon and telling me to tuck in and folks we are only visiting the bar for the third time. thinking back on our arrival i was lucky to be wearing sunglasses, for the smile we received from Rosie ( the real boss ) nearly blinded us both. after greeting guests sitting at the bar we settled in for a welcomed drink and caught up on the people we had met on our last trip. you see folks just because YOU are on holidays dosent mean you dont have to make the effort. i have been lucky to have travelled wide and far and have met people like Grace on many occasions. people who expect the world to come to a halt when they enter a pub or restaurant because they are on holiday. some really should hand back their passports and spare us all. so listen up. go on holiday to Lagos and visit THE STAR , chill and talk to the owners and those visiting the bar and you will be rewarded with some great memories. there are other bars in Lagos that are worth a visit but The Star is special and allways will be. kindest regards to allpat & karen.

Worth wandering up the back streets of Lagos town to find this fun bar. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the quiz night is great fun, with everyone encouraged to join in

This is a lovely friendly bar with great entertainment on most evening. A party washeld to celebrate the bar been open for 2 years on Monday the 15th Dec.So if you ever visit Lagos make sure you call in and have a drink which is still only €1-50 for a large beer.

Tried many places around Lagos town and marina area - this bar is one I will keep coming back to on any future visits to Lagos. Atmosphere can vary depending on customers in but music always good, just as claimed mainly 60s - 80s sounds. Quiz night proved a good laugh ! If like me you're not looking just for cheap alcohol but an enjoyable night then ignore those who go on about how cheap drinks are ( which is true ), and go have as relaxing or stimulating night out as you want. Sit quietly & talk with companions ( at least you have the choice to do so in here, many bars so noisy you can't ) or mix with other customers. Rick & Rozy are great as hosts, include you & happy to chat if you want as they serve or leave you to do your own thing. Never saw any unpleasantness or threatening behaviour or rowdiness in or by this bar unlike others in the town. Just wish The Star was my home local.

Just got back from 6 night stay in Lagos and we made several visits to The Star. It is what it is and doesn't claim to be for culture vultures, we enjoyed a great welcome from Rick and Rozy and other customers, had a laugh at the karaoke night and took advantage of the very cheap but also very palatable house red wine. Didn't eat there but heard that the food was good. Would have liked to have made the quiz night but we had an early start next day and knew that we wouldn't have the self discipline to leave early. I would recommend The Star, we also enjoyed traditional Portuguese bars and restaurants but when you just want to feel comfortable, have a chat and a laugh without spending a fortune The Star fits the bill.

I started coming to the Star bar before it got so popular and i always felt welcome, i'm not in lagos on vacations, i live here and i always come to this bar with my friends, and we've met really nice people and brought them here and they loved it. It's a bar for everyone, the drinks are cheap and the food is good. From i got from the other reviews it's always a positive response, and the bar is getting busy and busier. It's awesome !

During our recent holiday we visited this bar on 3 occasions, each visit was a delight with Rick and Rosy the perfect hosts always cheery and chatty. The value of this place is not only the incredible prices of the food and drink but in the quiet and relaxing ambiance Bathrooms were immaculate. It is an unassuming bar and you would probably walk past it but don't......go in you will be surprised. The prices are incredibly low; one night my wife and I had a chicken curry each washed down with 4 beers/4 glasses of wine and the bill came to an amazing 21 Euros. On our list for regular visit when we holiday next year.

A small bar with a big personality ! The hosts Rick and Rozy are so friendly. People in there are a good mix of nationalities and mix of locals and visitors. It is easy to get chatting to other customers or sit quietly if that's what you prefer and enjoy the atmosphere and good music. All are welcome to Monday night quiz night, fun rather than serious, just turn up and join in ( no fee ! ). Karaoke on Sunday nights - never been my thing but even my husband and myself enjoyed fun way it was done. I think negative reviews are just from those who were in the wrong place, plenty loud rowdy bars in town if that's what you want. The Star is tucked away but worth finding, as the rhyme goes.....Star light, star bright / First star I see tonight / I wish I may, I wish I might / Have a drink in The Star tonight !!!! Go ! We will most definitely be in when next in Lagos. Até logo !

I visited this Bar recently based on tripadvisor reviews, it was a real let down. When I go away I always check out reviews and seek out the places other people recommend. Never have I been to a place so highly recommended that has failed to deliver so spectacularly. It is a dull and dreary place, the lady from Fiji is pleasant enough IF you make the effort to engage her in conversation, other than her it's frosty place. True, it's cheap enough, but Lagos is blessed with many good bars and you'd have to try hard to find one that charges rip - off prices. If you are considering visiting this place based purely on reviews treat them with extreme caution, however, if you want the cheapest booze in town visit here or a supermarket - same atmosphere!

Me and my family went to this bar in the summer when we were on holiday. As an 18 year old it is some times hard to find a bar where both you and the rest of your family can have a really great time. The Star has that effect with the great food, fantastically priced drinks and first class entertainment. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff are polite and approachable with a real talent for making you feel at home. We really loved The Star and plan on returning to Lagos, Portugal next year because of this bar. We will definitely be back!

I just don't understand the excellent reviews. We sought this out based on all the reviews on here, but were really disappointed. Yes, drinks are cheap. We ordered a chili and a chicken curry. Chili was fine, chicken curry was ok but lacking on the chicken (very soupy). When we asked to have fries instead of rice, the landlord asked if we were sure because he'd 'have to turn the fryer on'. From there it was a long wait, and this was at 6.30pm. The lady was lovely, it must be said. Can't comment on the atmosphere because, aside from those sitting outside, we were the only ones there. Signed a petition about a sign whilst there. Sorry, will not recommend nor visit again.

We sought out this bar based on trip advisor reviews, when we found it we turned around and walked away as there were a few people sat outside who appeared a bit worse for wear and we just didn't feel comfortable. However the reviews are so consistantly good we tried again the following night as there was live entertainment advertised. It would be a stretch to say we were welcomed into this establishment, more a business like 'what do you want(to drink)?' It never warmed, I felt like an unwanted guest who must be tolerated. My overall impression of The Star is that it is a popular place to buy cheap alcohol, an average singer in the corner partially takes your mind off the lack of hospitality. In short 'The Star' sells cheap booze but there are many many better bars in Lagos that value your custom and enhance your holiday.

The Star Bar is a little star in Lagos, the drinks are shockingly cheap and the staff are lovely and very welcoming. Only discovered it at the end of our holiday otherwise we would of gone more.
