loughrigg fell

a not too testing climb but worth the effort for the fantastic view from the top. If you're lucky you just might come across a group of beautiful deer up there---makes the day even better.

Our first walk in the morning,to blow away the cobwebslovely views and a nice steady walk without to much hardworkgreat walk for the dog,and kept on a lead because of sheep/lambs

Good walking and great views down over the Lakes. Beautiful countryside. Wear walking shoes. Can be very wet underfoot.

Walked around Rydal, explored caves and then on to the top. Good climb up on obvious path, had fun wandering to other view points and enjoying good views. Kids enjoyed the walk and managed really well

If staying around Amberside,Grasmere and the Langdales this is a must.Great views down Windermere,Rydal,Grasmere lakes and surrounding hills.Gets busy at weekends and school hoildays.Good trainers,waterproof jacket and water needed.

Beautiful views of the lakes, surrounding villages, and lovely countryside. Achievable even for non-pro hikers!

Walked this with the family and our dog, rather than do the recommended walk, which is about 6 mile we decided to cut it short as the children didn't want to walk too far. Thing is that we took a few wrong turns and ended up doing about 7.5 miles! Cost me a lot of treats!Really recommend it though, not too hard and stopping in Ambleside for lunch works well.

This is the most amazing view of Windermere, Ambleside and the surrounding fells Its a climb but well worth it take your camera.

We climbed the fell on a rainy, grey overcast February day- and it was definitely worth it. The paths are well kept and it is easy to navigate. Despite the mist it provided some wonderful views and is now one of our favourite places in the Lakes. Worth a visit.

We started our trip from white moss car park which I highly recommend as starting point for the loughrigg fell due to ample parking spaces and well sign posted paths.Walked along river rydal for 10 minutes then crossed the bridge and were presented with 2 paths, along the river to grassmere village or wood land walk to the loughrigg terrace.Took the latter, easy walking path with sight elevation in small patches, breathtaking views of the lake and numerous benches at strategic view points.After 30 minutes of walking you are presented with a stone path going up to the summit or continue with the path down to the lake.We took the route to the summit, it is not for people with joint problems or fitness issues as it gets steep and challenging midway through, slippery in over cast weather and chilly at the top. Good footwear and waterproof clothes are a must.For the hardship you are rewarded with breathtaking view of 3 lakes grassmere, Windermere, and ulswater.Descent was another ball game.. Not much guidance on the top, there are rough patches going down to all directions we took the shortest route in the direction of parking and ended up going off the track, became very precarious but exhilarating, definitely not for the faint hearted.I suggest sticking to the normal descent routes and don't worry about losing your way as we found that the best part of hiking, all paths will eventually bring you down to ground Level.Most importantly start early as it gets dark very quickly at the top and you don't want be stranded midway with overcast shadows.Travel light and keep hydrated and don't forget to enjoy the views......!

Only had a few days up in the Lakes so keen to get out despite weather. Started from YHA Ambleside which all round is 8 miles. Not a challenging walk though and possible even in mist with good maps. Views not all possible from top so choose carefully the day you attempt.

for the novice walker this is an ideal location to get up a hill with not too much effort and get some great views. there are several routes up and the beauty for the novice is that you cant get lost and incure the wasted time and effort of the mountain rescue teams who have to recover intrepid ill advised novice walkers. so go up and have a look at the views of windermere and grasmere in one go.

Cracking little fell with lots of routes from grasmere and Ambleside. Look for the caves. Plenty to explore and great views from the summit

A walk up Loughrigg is a staple for us when the cloud is too low for the big fells. Although not very high, it's relatively isolated position gives fantastic views in all directions. The routes on Loughrigg can be very busy, , particularly the route along Loughrigg Terrace and then up to the top. This isn't a pointy hill, the top is large and has many lumps and bumps - come up here in poor visibility and it can be a navigational challenge. At any time it can feel remarkably wild considering it's easy accessibility. Well worth the effort.

fantastic views for moderate effort. Be careful on misty days if your navigation skills are limited as it would be easy to get lost.
