This is a lovely little restaurant in a beautiful location. I haven't tried the evening menu, but based on the quality of the food that I did have , I imagine it would be well worth the trip.

Just imagine a long leisurely walk in a beautiful Tree lined dale surrounded by the sound of birds chirping and babbling waters, followed by a home style lunch in the lush gardens of a restored hunting lodge, and you have Ramblers retreat at Dimmings dale. It's so right!

After visiting Ramblers Retreat for a meal we came away feeling very satisfied. The food was out of this world and there was lots of it. The service was excellentOne of the nicest places that we have eaten. We will be returning there very soon.

Hit the area on a wonderfully sunny September day and could not believe how beautiful the place was! Great for a good walk within lush woodland, valleys, streams, views, rocky outcrops, meadows and lakes! The variety of landscape is amazing. Was very much like being in a Robin Hood/Lord of the Rings kinda medieval world! Definitely now one of my favourite locations :-P

A wonderful location just a short distance from where I live. A great place to walk and relax come hail rain or shine with or without your dog. A the end of your walk Rambler's Retreat is a wonderful watering hole. Tea, coffee, snacks or full meals - all great quality at sensible prices. Dining in or outside but I recommend outside. Gary has created a unique dining garden. Please bag your dog's poo and dispose of it properly in a bin. Take it to your bin at home if necessary. Don't be one of those horrible people who bag it and hang it on a fence or tree or similar. That is worse than leaving it on the ground! Don't want to knock other reviewers but a) the Chained Oak is nearby but not in Dimmings Dale. b)There are no parking charges at Dimmings Dale so Sarah B is writing about somewhere else.

great walks through the woods and by the lake. Just a shame that the hedges are a little tall to be able to see from one side properly. Great area to visit and don't miss the chained tree! Wellies or good walking boots recommended

I've seen the signpost to the 'ramblers retreat' many times, and have always meant to go. Well we finally got there and what a lovely place. We had breakfast in the garden sitting next to the small waterfall. My husband had a sausage sandwich, well presented with garnish and nicely cooked. I had wholemeal toast and marmalade, and we had a pot of tea for two. The garden setting was peaceful and comfortable. There were a couple of people with their dogs, and a cyclist, so all were welcome. The menu ranges from breakfast, to cake and coffee, to a three course lunch. Mostly home cooked and locally sourced. You can choose to sit outside or in the conservatory. There is a homely atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant. We shall be returning to sample the delights of the menu.

The travers rest at dimmingsdale is a great place for a bite to eat. Great to sit both outside when the weather is nice or inside if weather is not so good. Try their legendary lemon meringue. The area is great for walking too!!
